WHY MAY-BRITT WANTS A liquor CABINET

It all started in New York. At the Noho Soho bar to be exact (because that’s where you want to be), where my love and I ordered two gin-tonics. And then two more, but that’s not important for the rest of this story. Those gin-tonics were exuberantly and elaborately being shaken. Bottles were being thrown in the air, there was shaking involved, juggling and generous amounts of alcohol being used. And most importantly everything that was being shaken was being poured into glasses. Incredible glasses. Do you remember those old fashioned whiskey glasses that you used to find in wooden liquor cabinets? Those. But then the 2016 version.

And that’s when I knew. I had to have those glasses too. So I knocked on my colleague Renske’s door because she knows a thing or two about both interior and drinks (check!). A week later I found myself at a restaurant (& Samboud Places). Great food, fourteen courses without ever feeling too stuffed, and then there were the glasses. Where had the chef gotten his hands on those, was my question of the evening. Somewhere in a vintage store was the answer. Okay. So he wasn’t willing to tell me where they came from. But my urge only grew.

”And obviously that also means that I want a saucer with fresh slices of lemon and lime”

I still don’t have the glasses (tips, anyone?) but my dream has become even bigger. I need a new liquor cabinet. And one of those double sealed ice cube coolers that I’ll fill around wine o’clock and use those unhandy tweezers to grab the cubes out. And obviously that also means that I want a saucer with fresh slices of lemon and lime. And straws! Festive straws. And rosemary, dried flowers and cloves and basil and all of the rest of the gang.

And not just one sort of Gin. No. I need Hendricks and Tanqueray and Monkey 47. For the nights that Renske comes (because whiskey happens to be very #goals2016) a small selection of Scottish whiskey. Her favorites; Laphroaig (at least ten years old), Bowmore, Oban and Talisker. Then I’ve also got some Sambuca from Molinari for another colleague and for Kiki a nice bottle of Liquor 43. Then all of us like to sip on some Limoncello. With matching glasses that I kept in the freezer to make sure they’re ice and ice cold.
