De teksten zouden bijna een film kunnen zijn, wat soms zelfs letterlijk gebeurt. Zoals de 10-minutenversie van All Too Well, die na de heropname van Red werd uitgebracht als korte film. Sabrina aan de andere kant schrijft ook over haar liefdesleven en break-ups, maar door haar humor en simpelere teksten voelt het wat echter. Meer relatable. Nu schrijft Sabrina niet alleen maar “That’s that me Espresso”, hoor. In haar album Emails I Can’t Send staan ook ingewikkeldere teksten, met als mijn persoonlijke favoriet het titelnummer, over het vreemdgaan van haar vader. Zeker in haar nieuwste album, Man’s Best Friend, zingt Sabrina over persoonlijke situaties: onstabiele relaties die steeds aan-en-uit gaan, ze realiseert zich dat een oude bekende ineens erg hot is geworden, een vriend die haar niet meer ziet staan, een man die alleen maar zwoele praatjes heeft en haar niet goed behandelt. Het zijn situaties die de meesten van ons allemaal weleens hebben meegemaakt. Het is real, en dat is wat mensen pakt. Bijvoorbeeld in Tears, waar ze beschrijft hoe ze de simpelste acties van een man romantiseert. “Baby, just do the dishes. I’ll give you what you want.” Klinkt herkenbaar? Dat kan, want de bare minimum geweldig vinden is iets wat veel gebeurt in dit digitale tijdperk. “I get wet at the thought of you, being a responsible guy.” Ze gooit er nog een grap tegenaan en het allerbelangrijkste: ze zingt alsof ze het aan een vriendin zou vertellen. Dat maakt haar teksten realistischer en herkenbaarder voor fans. Sabrina maakt easter eggs hilarisch Ja, easter eggs zijn waar Taylor Swift om bekend staat: ze stopt kleine hints in haar fotoshoots, videoclips en sociale media-posts om nog-niet-uitgebrachte muziek te teasen.
