Whether I wanted to go to the Stockholm Fashion Week. “Yes, please!” I have been a fan of Scandinavian fashion for years. The minimalist style, the beautiful fits, and everything just a bit with an edge.
I had the pleasure of accompanying the Benelux team of the fashion brand Tiger of Sweden. In the Netherlands, this brand is (still) not very well known, but the Swedish fashion house has been around for more than 100 years, and with great success, you can see it everywhere on the streets. They are hosting the final show of the Stockholm Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, it couldn't be better!
Upon arriving in Stockholm, we are immediately taken to one of the most beautiful ships in the harbor to take a trip over the water. The weather is summery, the company on board is great, and the view is breathtakingly beautiful. The captain tells us that the houses on the fjords by the water cost a small fortune, so that will require some saving…
With a nice color on my face – from the sun and the champagne – I step off the ship at the end of the afternoon to check out one of the brand stores of Tiger of Sweden. There, the champagne is also cold. Those Vikings know how to drink! My Dutch body is not quite used to this pace, so I wisely switch to water.
The new winter collection is beautiful: every item would fit perfectly in my wardrobe! The luxurious materials range from wool to leather, the color palette is a mix of burgundy (my favorite!), gray, and a lot of black.
Simple fits and ton-sur-ton shades are combined with SCOTTISH TARTANS AND BIKER DETAILS, a nod to the punk of yesteryear
The moment approaches when we head to the catwalk show: tonight the SS14 collection will be presented. Even though I don't know a single Swedish editor, blogger, or celebrity, I can spot them easily. A girl sits down in front of us who apparently wants to stand out; she has an enormous peacock feather headdress on her head. The woman in the chair next to me can’t see anything anymore! “Shall we accidentally give her a little push?‘ The show begins and the chattering fashion crowd goes abruptly silent. The collection is aptly named Poetic Punk, it is a classic line, but with a distinctly rebellious twist. Simple fits and ton-sur-ton shades are combined with Scottish tartans and biker details, a nod to the punk of yesteryear. I instantly fall in love with a mint green skirt and matching blazer: I’m quite fond of sets…
Afterwards, we celebrate the success of the show with the Tiger team at café-restaurant Riche, which you definitely have to visit when you're here. All of fashion, art, and club-loving Stockholm comes here. Now I can't escape it anymore: the champagne is bubbling on the table again and I can’t help but give in to it.
After also tasting delicious Swedish meatballs and other treats, I leave feeling pleasantly drowsy together with the Tiger Benelux team to our hotel. What a successful day!
At the end of September, Tiger of Sweden will open no less than two stores in our country: in Breda and Amsterdam. Go there and get addicted too. To be continued….
