DEAR MIRROR IMAGE
The corridors had been talking about it for months, and last weekend it was finally confirmed: Lady Gaga is the face of the s/s2014 campaign for Versace. The house announced this with a Instagram post where we get to see a first image of the campaign, with jubilant text labeling Gaga as the ultimate Versace woman. In the campaign image, we see Gaga draped in a tight purple dress sensually lounging on a couch, and the resemblance between Gaga and Miss Versace herself is of course undeniable.
“Lady Gaga COMPLETELY captures the Versace essence: creative, experimental, FEARLESS,” according to the brand.
Call me a nag, but it’s actually pure narcissism to turn one of the biggest global stars of our time, who has become so famous precisely because of her unique style, into an exact copy of yourself. Right? “Lady Gaga completely captures the Versace essence: creative, experimental, fearless, according to the brand. I find that complicated. Saying that someone is incredibly creative and experimental, and then presenting her as a completely thought-out and meticulously executed existing concept. Have we ever seen Donatella not in a tight bodycon dress and with long straight platinum blonde hair? But, in the world of high arts and creativity, perhaps that is precisely very creative and contrarian. Long story short, Gaga loves Versace, Versace loves Gaga, but Versace might love Versace itself the most.
