LOOKING LOOKING LOOKING

From November 20 to December 1, Amsterdam will be focused on visual entertainment and depth. The documentary festival IDFA will be held in various cinemas in the city, and personally, I like to make it a sport to see as much as possible. Today, the programming for this year has been announced, online ticket sales start on November 11 at 19:00, and believe me, there is a lot that you don't want to miss. A selection.

The Director: An Evolution in Three Acts (Christina Voros)
This is already my favorite without having seen it. In The Director we follow Frida Gianni, the creative director of Gucci. A woman who as a child mainly dreamed of a quiet life and a garden full of beautiful flowers, but now suddenly finds herself at the helm of one of the most famous brands on earth. Director Christina Voros spent over a year with Frida and gives us a fantastic view of the Italian fashion house. From model casting to collection presentations, meetings with buyers, and trips to Asia, and of course working on and towards a show. I am really looking forward to this.

Monk with a Camera (Guido Santi, Tina Mascara)
Sometimes the apple falls very far from the tree. Sometimes it even falls all the way from America to India. Nicholas Vreeland is the grandson of Diana Vreeland, the renowned and praised editor-in-chief of American Vogue from the 1960s. Nicholas knew no better than to live in a world of glitter and glamour, and he becomes a photographer and also a professional skirt chaser and dandy. Until he comes into contact with Buddhism, hangs up his camera, and decides to become a monk and enter the monastery. He continues to love the camera but struggles with the eternal battle between the vanity of the arts and the austerity of Buddhism. Click here for the trailer.

Norah Noh (Sung-hee Kim)
Norah Noh is the Coco Chanel of South Korea, and in this documentary, we follow the fashion designer during the preparations for the fashion show that is supposed to summarize her oeuvre. Noh is already 84. Her designs have appeared on the covers of Vogue and Bazaar and were of unprecedented influence and popularity in the 1940s to 1960s in the difficult South Korea. A delightful glimpse into a completely different (fashion) world. No trailer available, but here you can watch a short interview with her.
