DO DENIM
Insist you on wearing a skinny even though you’re a size 46? Suit yourself, really. Tears and cuts? Go ahead. Your crotch between your knees? Be my guest. You won’t hear a peep. I think it’s all okay. I won’t instruct you on which fit to wear if you’re a certain body type. Do you want to know what you can do to wear your jeans as optimally as possible then continue reading since the relation with your jeans is usually one that endures.
- Never buy jeans online! Unless it’s a similar model of that same brand you already bought, and you know exactly what you need. Always try on a new pair of jeans. And take your time doing this. Keep it on for a couple of minutes, walk around, sit, in short: really feel whether this fit suits you. Usually, you commit to a rather long relation with this clothing article, so allow some time to pass for it to get used to your body.
- If you want to shorten your jeans, then don’t forget to ask for the original hem to be sown in. But don’t be too quick with your scissors, it’s very now to roll up your jeans and flash a bit of ankles.
- A fashionista worth her salt has jeans in different styles to match different looks. Aside from the fit, the washing can also vary each fashion season. So stay alert. Buy a new fit at least once a year is my advice.
- If you know that you’ll mostly wear jeans and heels then take these along when you’re going to fit them. That way, you can best judge which jeans to take. You can see whether the length and fit are balanced.
- With stretch denim, keep in mind to buy a size smaller than usual. If you wear it, they’ll stretch and it will fit a tad more loosely. Check the label to see how much stretch has been processed in the fabric. The higher amount of elastine, the more it’ll stretch and so the greater the risk of saggy jeans. Don’t forget that denim always stretches, even if they’ve got little elastine processed in them.
Make your jeans fashion statement:
- Combine denim on denim. A denim shirt combined with jeans is totally okay. But the washings should differ from each other, it shouldn’t look like a set.
- It’s allowed again: the denim jacket… The more vintagy the better. Preferably to be worn with a longer skirt and your favourite biker boots.
- New: the coated skinny with leather that has a metallic (golden, silver, and copper) shimmer. Combine with ankle boots and a big, loosely knitted sweater to look extra tough.
- Do you like to wear your jeans rolled up — showing ankles — then go for a boyfriend fit and wear super sexy, high stilettos.
My personal favourite?
J.Crew’s boyfriend fit with hand-painted (one of a kind) paint splashes.
Oh and finally…
The question whether to combine a smoking jacket with jeans? No. I’m really strict when it comes to this.
We pulled these sort of jokes in the 80s when it was hip to rebel against dress codes, but enough is enough.
