10 hoe-te-dressen-slim-tips
SO YOU SHINE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA
Normally, I know exactly what to wear. A different dress for every party. When I have to appear on TV, I often have a little ‘costume crisis’. Because dressing nicely is one thing, looking good on TV is another story.
The camera is the biggest fat maker there is. It's no coincidence that models are asked to have an almost impossible hip measurement of 90 centimeters. On screen, you simply look thicker. Both in photos and on film. Caution is advised, in short.
Through wobbling and swaying, I have learned what works and what definitely doesn't. And I'm sharing it with you. Just because I'm not the worst and two, because you'll see that your Instagram posts and your family photos will show a much better version of you.
Wat niet te dragen
Dresses or outfits with 3D embroidery. I once got to wear a fantastic Valentino for a Marie Claire event that I hosted. Flown in from Milan, the finest mesh adorned with all leather butterflies that were embroidered on it. The dress had two downsides. One; you couldn't wear underwear underneath, so I was forced into a Patricia Paay situation and two; in the photos from the evening, instead of seeing myself in a beautiful dress, I saw a Fat Woman. 3D clothing. Don't do it.
Padded, hard, bulky models. Any bulky sweaters or padded tops but not on TV. It makes you look bulky and angular. No woman is happy about that.
Leather. Super sexy a black leather top with a nice sleeve. The shine of the material makes it very robust and colossal. Only an option if you wear a jacket over it that creates a slimming effect.
Prints. Danger. Recently, I chose a very funky top from MGDM for RTL Boulevard. Black with a rococo-like print. Great in real life, but on TV it didn't work so well that even the makeup artist whispered to me that it all looked a bit too solid.
Watch out with black. I once bought a beautiful poncho from Isabel Marant but on TV, I became a large black spot.
So what then?
Slim materials. A nice jersey, a blouse. Fabrics that don't take up too much space and hug your body.
If you if you don't have a drop-dead gorgeous killer body, I recommend wearing a jacket over it. It slims you down and covers small bulging fat areas that we almost all have on our hips (the top of a muffin) or by your bra strap.
A good scarf. I'm in love with my cashmere scarf from Chanel. It's warm but gives a simple outfit an instant flair. And it can be used to camouflage pain points.
Consider what you will see when you are filmed. A dress can have a great bottom, but if you're sitting behind a table on TV, no one will see that.
Make sure to have statement accessories. A striking earring or a funky brooch on a simple jacket gives you instant allure.
Ensure there are ‘peek-a-boos’ and ‘air’ in your outfit. A jacket draped over your shoulders shows more waist, making you look slimmer. When you combine different colors, there is also more ‘peek-a-boo’.
Cover your upper arms. Only Michelle Obama can pull it off, and models of 20. For normal mortals, an arm for a camera is usually a particularly bad idea.
