Things you didn't know about your favorite series
There is no series I have rewatched more than Friends, Sex and the City, and Gossip Girl. A lazy Saturday, a sad Sunday, or a bored Wednesday, it doesn't matter, these series binge-watching again is always a good idea. I think I can say that I know every storyline, but still, there are always things you don't know. Here we go.
Gossip Girl
- Blake (Serena) and Penn (Dan) were also dating in real life from 2007 to 2010.
- The story about rich kids was initially intended as a movie, and Lindsey Lohan was cast for the role of Blair.
- Ed Westwick (Chuck) auditioned for the role of Nate. The producers didn't want to cast Ed for any role because “he looked more like a serial killer than a romantic lead.”
- The writers of the series already knew from episode 1 that Blair and Chuck would eventually end up together.
Friends
- The name of the series was not the original title. The first idea was Insomnia Café, then Friends Like Us, then Across The Hall and then Six Of One until it eventually just Friends was called.
- All six actors received $22,000 per episode at the beginning of the series. Not bad, but in the last season they could write a MILLION per episode on their invoices.
- Gunther, the half-Dutch peroxide blonde bartender with a huge crush on Rachel, only got a name halfway through the second season. And his first line of dialogue was in the 33rd episode and consisted of “yeah.” He was actually supposed to remain an extra, but he was the only one who knew how the coffee machine worked, so the writers wrote him into the series.
- Filming a 20-minute episode took 5 hours, and there was a live audience present during the recordings, except for the important cliffhangers.
- Do you remember that big white dog that Joey buys during the short period when he finally earns money? Jennifer Aniston received it from friends to celebrate that she got the role of Rachel.
- The ages of the friends are quite random. Ross, for example, is 29 for three years, and sometimes his birthday is in October and then again in December. In short, no one knows how old he or she is.
Sex and the City
- Sarah Jessica Parker is the only one from the cast who had in her contract that she would not appear nude on screen.
- The tutu she wears in the opening scene cost $5 and came from a thrift store. Actually, no one liked it except for Sarah Jessica and Patricia Field (the series‘ stylist). But after a lot of nagging, they got their way, and the tutu gained worldwide fame. It is now framed and hanging in producer Michael King's office.
- Season 5 has only 8 episodes because Parker was pregnant in real life.
- Carrie's apartment was sold in 2012 for nearly 10 million dollars (!!!)
- In 2001, Sarah Jessica also became an executive producer and earned 3 million dollars per episode (!!!)
- In the series, no one, NO ONE, wears the same outfit twice.
