4 x nice shopping cities in the Netherlands
and where you should eat
Amsterdam is wonderful to live in and there are so many nice shops, but somehow I always find it a bit more fun in another city to shop. I always walk into H&M or ZARA everywhere because I feel like it's a bit different there. Since not all of you come from Amsterdam and I quite like talking about my own little town, I’m sharing four surprisingly nice shopping cities in our country today. So you don’t have to book a ticket to Londen or Paris for a good shopping spree. In Arnhem, Breda, Maastricht, and Haarlem, you can find just as much.
I think this might be one of the nicest cities in the country. I can get there from Amsterdam in a quarter of an hour by train and I also like to stay there for a bite to eat.
The store MOISE I love. Lots of Isabel Marant, T By Alexander Wang, and Avelon. My favorite brands under one roof. At I.D. and Trade Studio they mainly sell a lot of Scandinavian labels (also my favorite) like: Second Female and Samsøe & Samsøe. If you, like me, have an addiction to sneakers, you will go completely hysterical in the store Sneak Up.
Our intern Maud comes from the area near Breda. She always looks damn good and most of her clothes are bought in that city. These are her favorite shops.
Only Juul is a small boutique where you want to have everything right away. Clothes, jewelry, shoes, and bags that are not necessarily from very well-known brands, but that’s just nice because you don’t see them often. Dille & Kamille is a store where you can immediately stock up on gifts for under the Christmas tree. Or for yourself, of course. NOOS31 has about everything: clothing, accessories, home goods, books, and a nice little café. Here you can let Maud loose for a quiet hour.
We then have lunch at Oncle Jean. A very cozy neighborhood brasserie with delicious wines.
There you have it fashion quarter on the Sonsbeeksingel. Dozens of shops that make my heart race. Many boutiques with Isabel Marant, By Malene Birger, Kenzo, yep, it’s there.
If you go to Arnhem to do your Sinterklaas shopping, then Wim Pollmann is really an incredibly good store for cutlery, crockery, and kitchenware. Maybe I get even more excited about this than about a clothing store. Did I say that? No.
Are you a bit tired of shopping (because you’re already carrying kilos of new purchases), then settle down at the end of the afternoon at Cosi, a lovely Italian for a plate of pasta or a caprese salad with a glass of wine. Ah, sounds good.
I always feel like I’m a bit abroad in Maastricht. When I go, I sleep in the Townhouse or if you really have something to celebrate, the Kruisherenhotel is very nice. The store Style is filled with the most beautiful clothes from Ready to fish, Won Hundred, and Amatør. If you’re lucky, owner Chantal is in the store and you can bet you’ll leave with bags full. For a bit more expensive, I think. AIM is the most beautiful store. See by Chloé, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Patrizia Pepe are there. Secondhand4All. is a kind of byDanie Vintage Shop.
You can score really beautiful pieces from Dior, Chanel, and Gucci here. Maastricht is also a. considerable food paradise . If you want to take a break during shopping in the afternoon, lunch at very nice. At the end of the afternoon a glass of wine (with cheese platter!) at R55-Wienkontor and afterwards you can join at restaurant “O” if you like fruits de mer and otherwise I think Restaurant Witloof is one of the coziest restaurants in the city. And don't worry, not every dish contains witlof.
