5 restaurant tips in Amsterdam
Because everyone knows that I have a big heart for the hospitality industry, I regularly get texted the question: “Jet, where should I eat tonight?” Then I always take my list out, saved on my iPhone. For half of the list, I haven't even eaten there myself yet, but it's already in the planning. God, can I please have a few more days in my week and a few more zeros in my bank account to try them all? Here in Amsterdam, the nice restaurants are popping up like mushrooms. Sigh.
Do you happen to have no idea where you're going to eat tonight? I'll give you a few gems from my list.
Especially with nice weather (and it is today!) this is a nice new hotspot by the water. The place is inspired by Paramaribo, so if you want to relax a bit (with a palm tree to your right) with a Surinamese beer in hand, you're in the right spot. And if you're hungry, you can order a pastry, roti, a burger, or chicken. Don't worry, if it starts to rain or gets a bit colder, it's also very cozy inside. In the evening, there's music to which you can definitely dance a little.
Yep, my all-time favorite. Big place, incredibly nice and young staff, delicious food, and a great atmosphere. Steak tartare, lobster, artichoke, or sole. Order a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet and I'm as happy as a child.
A sister of Café Restaurant Amsterdam. Opened less than a month ago but already packed, so make sure to reserve in time for a spot. The restaurant is next to the entrance of Artis, which is very nice because you can look at cute little white birds flying around in the zoo. When it gets dark, all the little white lights outside turn on. Very romantic. The menu features many Mediterranean dishes and platters (meat or veggie) that you can share. The gin and tonic menu is also fun. Rolling home.
Just newly opened in the Conservatorium hotel. This is not a cheap option, so you really need to have something to celebrate. If you first order a nice cocktail at the bar in the Tunes bar and then join Taiko by Schilo, then you're in for a treat. An Asian kitchen with a menu full of delicious wine and various sakes. For this restaurant, make sure to wear a nice outfit.
The Hallen are amazing. It's a huge building in Amsterdam West with various restaurants, a hotel, a large terrace, and soon a cinema. Brasserie Halte 3 is one of the three restaurants. I have a weakness for brasseries, so this is my favorite. Good and affordable tasty food, fresh ingredients, and a relaxed atmosphere. Shall I see you there tonight?
