As the clock on the wrist ticks

For years I didn't have a watch. As long as I didn't have the Tank by Cartier , I managed with my iPhone. In this time where every device has a clock, a watch is not a necessity but a luxury. In the past, you could still get away with a digital Blokker thing because hey, a person has to know what time it is after all. That's why it's extra important that a watch matches your personality.

 The boyfriend watch

The oversized men's watch gives a bit of the same effect as wearing his shirt on a lazy Sunday morning. It's powerful and tough and also accentuates your femininity. A large timepiece (Jort Kelder will hit you when you say ‘clock’) in rose gold immediately makes it clear that it's really your watch and not his. After all, big dresses down and such a sturdy, rose gold watch breathes money and success.

Sylvie Meis and Lieke van Lexmond.

 The understated classic

‘My’ Tank by Cartier with leather strap or the Tank in stainless steel is a classic watch (it was made during the First World War so that French soldiers could easily see what time it was on their wrist instead of on their pocket watch) that actually works anytime. With jeans and a shirt, it gives your casual look a lift, but it also fits perfectly with a business outfit. No one will take offense. It's a slender, classic appearance. Oh, if our queen has it too, you know you're on the right track.

Queen Maxima, Jetteke van Lexmond, Thijs Willekes.

 The bling-bling variant

Big is one thing, adding diamonds is another story. It shows that you like to feel the attention on you (Hello Kimye) and that life is treating you exceptionally well. What do I think of it, you ask? If you need that to shine... How did the saying go again? Even if a monkey wears a golden ring...

Yolanthe Sneijder-Cabau, Kim Kardashian.

Not very practical but super chic

In my overview, the Cape Cod by Hermès, aka the wrap watch, must be included. Not necessarily practical but who cares about practicality when it can also be stylish? The Hermès Kelly Cadenas is even less adequate because the clock hangs like a padlock on the leather strap, but I would snatch it right off our dear Peggy's wrist because I think it's so cool.

Peggy Weijergang, Carolien Spoor, Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna.
