Beauty

SAY ONCE HONESTLY.

Do you not clean your face in the evening either?

Some time ago, I was presented with a study from Female First under the nose that I wasn't very surprised about, but I hoped everyone knew better. The headline of the article: ‘Women leave makeup on too long’. There were quite a few, how shall I put it, concerning results. For instance, 20% of the participating women in the study leave mascara on for three days. Three days? It can get worse. 5 percent of the women ‘enjoyed’ it for five days. Half of all surveyed ladies apply their makeup between seven and eight in the morning and take it off around half past nine in the evening. How they remove it is not mentioned, but that it is concerning is clear, and that it has been on for a long time is also evident. They also do not clean their makeup brushes and sponges properly. A quarter of the women say they never clean the brushes and sponges, and a third does so only every six weeks.

Do you feel somewhat addressed by the little study? Or did you also wake up with eyelash prints on your pillow and foundation stains on your duvet? No worries. My lovely colleagues from Amayzine HQ find themselves in the same boat, and this little study got them talking quite a bit. Some confessions were thrown on the table that I could feast on, and you might recognize yourself in them.

For example, May-Britt used to just clean her face with baby wipes. No foam, no lotion, just baby wipes. And Jet sometimes jumps into bed after a long night of dancing without removing her makeup. Cause: laziness, effect: regret the next morning. But you can see from her wonderfully beautiful skin that she generally really follows the rules. Only when the cotton pads are out, she does it with toilet paper, and according to her, that doesn’t work at all. Due to the lack of those cotton pads, she sometimes cleans her skin with shower gel. She thinks that’s not very good for your skin so close to your eyes, but according to her, it does its job just fine.

Let’s not forget Liesbeth. According to her own words, she is a disaster when it comes to her skincare. “For the sake of it, I always say “sometimes I clean my face in the evening’, but that’s actually a lie. I never do that. NEVER. Sometimes I shower before bed and then it washes off by itself, but that’s where it ends. Usually, I remove all the mascara that has run down my cheeks (hello panda look) in the morning with a cotton pad and cleansing lotion and then apply some day cream. For years, I dutifully smeared with the serum and day cream from Estée Lauder, but my budget is not sufficient for that nowadays. So now I use a moisturizer from Uncover Skincare, which was in the goodie bag from the Amayzine launch party. By the way, it’s a lovely cream. I rarely go to the beautician, have had ”buy face wash’ on my to-do list for months, and always pop pimples despite knowing that I shouldn’t. When I’m 70 and the wrinkles hang down to my knees, I’m going to hate myself so much.“

In the past, I really did leave my mascara on for a night after a way too long night of dancing. Only to put another layer on the next morning. But now, as a beauty editor, you understand that I stick to the rules a bit more. Every morning and every evening, the cleansing ritual with Clinique's 3-step plan is initiated, and I must admit, with results. At first, I found it quite a hassle to take the time for it. But now it has become a fixed routine when getting up and going to bed.
For now, ladies, a tip from this beauty editor. No time, no desire, throw those excuses overboard. If you don’t want to see only wrinkles on your face when you’re eighty, I really recommend cleansing. Your vanity may be filled with wonderfully beautiful and expensive helping jars and creams, but they really do nothing for your skin if it’s not clean. So take a good look at the shopping and take some time tomorrow to 1. Get the products at home and 2. Make them your best friend as soon as possible. Good luck!
