How do you introduce Bastiaan van Schaik? Stylist, editor-in-chief, TV personality but above all a fashion lover. Go to a hip party and you'll see Bas. And he will also tell you in ready-made quotes what he thinks about it. Name a place and he has been there. Extremely curious about his favorite hangouts, we roll out the red carpet for him in our secret black book.

What do you think is a nice restaurant in Amsterdam?

L’entrecôte et les dames on the van Baerlestraat is one of my favorites. I go there very often and then order, of course, an entrecôte. The sauce that comes with it is incredibly delicious. The recipe is a secret, I once tried to extract it to make it at home, but that completely failed. There is definitely a lot of butter in it, mustard, tarragon, and pastis.

The service is very nice and the guests who come there are also pleasant. You always get a refill when you have finished your plate and no, I am not sponsored by them, I just think it's a top place.’

Where do you like to have lunch?

Walem on the Keizersgracht has a lovely terrace for people-watching. It is a very classic restaurant that hasn't changed since 1985 (because that's how long it has existed), and it still runs like a train. The Croque madame there is the best in the city. I don't know what they do with it, but I think that sandwich first sits in a cheese bath for three days. So delicious.

If you could go away for a weekend tomorrow, where would you go?

‘I would immediately want to go to Los Angeles and then I prefer to sleep in the Mondrian or the Andaz Hotel. I want to go to LA mainly because of the weather, they do that incredibly well there. The pool culture is very nice there. Just hanging out all day with a cocktail on your sunbed by the water. For power shopping, I go to Beverly Hills and for the outlet stores, I find Palm Springs very nice.’

What does your ideal Sunday look like?

‘We assume that the weather is nice, then I want to brunch in Café Restaurant Amsterdam. Here you can sit outside beautifully. The view is also so nice. A little visit to Artis, looking at animals. Hanging out a bit in the city. And preferably with my bff Morris Nieuwenhuizen. By the way, I think spending a whole day in bed is also an option. I have a lovely house after all.’

And lastly, what should we wear this summer?

‘Chanel of course! They have such a cool collection with hysterical prints. I also saw that at Kenzo. So cool. I really think the more hysterical, the better. And then with a pair of cool Nike sneakers underneath. I think this summer the heels are going to take a backseat and we will go for flat shoes.

And if you are going to buy something, do it especially online. You can find such good deals there. Mango, H&M, and Zara have really amazing things. So convenient that you can try on at home at your leisure and send back everything you don't like. You also avoid rude store staff. Just nice online.
