Breasts are HOT
There is an interesting development happening in the modeling world: breasts have made a comeback. Were they ever gone, you wonder, yes, they indeed were. Back in the days of Marilyn Monroe large breasts and round hips were the ideal image, since Kate Moss gained fame little of that image remained. It was called heroin chic and it peaked in the mid-90s: thin, frail girls, with pale skin and a razor-sharp bone structure. In the meantime, people have moved away from that, but the unnaturally thin has always remained. And what do girls who don't eat lack: breasts. Breasts are pure fat and without fat, there are no breasts.
Moreover, small breasts are often directly associated with being slim. And, a confession, I have always been incredibly happy with my modest cup B and will not quickly wear a push-up bra because I think it makes me look 10 kilos heavier. There was even a time when I squeezed myself into minimizers, much to the dismay of every man who ever came into contact with that. Whether you agree with it or not, in the fashion world, small breasts always have the preference because large jugs have a distracting effect on what it’s really about: the clothing. Lara Stone has been the model for years showing that a large chest can indeed work in high fashion, but the catwalk models remained flatter than flat.
Until now. Because what did we see in New York, models with a significant cup on all the major catwalks. The Dutch Anna Ewers, for example, full lips, long blonde hair, and a nice set of friends up front. She walked DvF, Elke week word ik ingedeeld om twee, Alexander Wang, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, and Marc Jacobs, and those are really the top shows in New York. To be fair, she stands out quite a bit. Among all the girls with two backs, suddenly a young and fresh Brigitte Bardot emerges from the wings!
It’s somewhat related to the trend that breasts are very visible anyway, designer opinion hangs his models in transparent tops of lace or mesh. Nipples are always present on the catwalk, but this season they are more prominent than ever. As if everyone is trying to make it clear that women indeed do have breasts and that we should celebrate and embrace that.
Keep an eye on the catwalks of Milan and Paris, and on the pages of Vogue and ELLE in the coming time. I’m telling you, the boob is back.
