May's New Year's Eve shopping tour
Driving into the heart of Amsterdam on New Year's Eve is not really a great idea. But let me not be a great planner after all, so I had to. not really a great planner so I had to. Luckily, there's my buddy Twingo who weaves past every cargo bike, DHL courier, or group of teenage girls. No worries, Amsterdam is a piece of cake for us. Even today.
My route started with a visit to the best shoemaker in the city. The most expensive one right away because for fresh heels and soles you could almost buy a new pair of shoes, but okay. It's fast and takes care of my Gucci's, McQueen's, and Aquazzura's almost as well as I do, and that's worth quite a bit. Where can you find it? On Koninginneweg.
Next, the tour continued to Cornelis Schuyt, the city's favorite little street. I found a spot right in front of Shoebaloo. Life-threatening. Thanks to controlled breathing and some quick visualization exercises, I managed not to go inside. I crossed over to bookstore Mulder. Another nice place where the saleswoman always asks how Amayzine is doing. So sweet. I bought a stack of inspiration that I will spend horizontally on New Year's Day.
And then there's of course the chapter on oliebollen and appelflappen. I was drawn to this super cozy stall. 10 oliebollen for €7.50, while I later saw them at Albert Heijn for €1.79. But these are organically responsible, much tastier, and well, the Schuyt remains the Schuyt. And if I had come a little later, I would have gotten such a delicious filled glass with my beignet, so...
Then we sped off towards the supermarket to load up the cart. While I easily spun from one side of the road to the other, I did hold up Amsterdam traffic for a moment. But a friendly taxi driver solved it by giving us a lot of priority. How come? That's the effect Twingo has on people.
