FESTIVAL WITH A FILTER

Do you have Instagram? Facebook? Twitter? Or even an internet connection? Then you've definitely seen photos from Coachella. If we were to play Coachella bingo together, you would have already crossed off the following points on the card.

  • Ferris wheel
  • Palm trees. With or without a setting sun
  • Very tall slender girls with bare bellies
  • Round sunglasses
  • High waisted denim shorts
  • Pool parties at large villas

This year there are two Coachella weekends, the first of which has just passed. From April 18 to 20 is weekend two, and for those who have no idea what Coachella actually is, here’s a crash course. First of all, it’s a festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. To be precise, the Coachella Valley (title explanation!). You also immediately have the reason why a million billion celebs come, the valley is a stone's throw away from movie star mecca L.A. Kate Bosworth, Vanessa Hudgens, Alessandra Ambrosio, all the Rich Kids, Chiara Ferragni, Shea Marie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Aaron Paul, Kendall Jenner, Paris Hilton and of course Lindsey Lohan. The festival grounds are adorned with artworks, stylish tents, and of course The Ferris Wheel, and all of this creates very Instagram-worthy pictures. I personally had a good laugh when last Saturday Instagram suddenly went down and Twitter flooded with messages like “I think that everybody at Coachella is really confused about what to do now that Instagram’s down.”

You could almost forget, but there are also bands and artists coming. The lineup from last weekend included Bastille, Calvin Harris, Lana del Rey, Laurent Garnier (one of my personal favorites), Outkast, Pharrel Williams and Solange Knowles (the latter actually received a visit from sister Beyoncé during her last song which made the audience go totally mental).

Anyone who wants to be present next year must dig deep into their pockets (tickets quickly cost a few hundred dollars) and moreover be quick, they are always sold out within three blinks of an eye. But well, who cares about that because once you're in, you're at the coolest festival ever. Just make sure you have an Instagram account because otherwise, you might as well not start at all. #hen it is just.
