New juice in town
Oh oh oh, how is that supposed to work? Right on the way to the editorial office, a brand new juice bar has opened. This means that from now on, I have to leave home a little earlier every day to grab a juice. Nathalie Streng, the owner of the place, lived in New York for a while and went crazy from all the fancy cold-pressed juice bars there and thought it was high time that Amsterdam got one too. It is basically a juice bar, but the juices are made with a slow juicer instead of a regular juicer. That is really a whole different ball game because all the vitamins and minerals are preserved this way. Normally, heat is generated during centrifugation, which causes the juice to lose its healthy nutritional value. In addition, there are also salads on the menu and raw wraps made from spinach and coconut with hummus. All to go.
The refrigerators are full of freshly squeezed juices. Each bottle contains at least 2.5 kilos of vegetables and fruit. If you're a bit hungrier, you can order a smoothie that is made fresh right in front of you. I got a bit dizzy from the menu because there are so many delicious things on it. The smoothies also have very funny names, such as: The Sh*t, TDF (To die for) or The Super Nova. I took their advice and got “the power breaky.” My god, how delicious. Cashew milk, banana, strawberries, coconut yogurt, dates, nut butter, and a seed mix. I don't need to say more, do I? See you there?
