At the time of writing, it is Friday afternoon and we have just had our VERY LAST juice and I can't tell you how happy we are about that. In terms of hunger, the juicing is fine, but it is too boring not to eat, to always be the one who is the party pooper. It's silly to have to admit, but Spa Rood is just really a lot less fun than a white wine. Afternoons in Vondelpark in the full sun are not nearly as enjoyable when you can't eat baguettes with dip. On Saturday we start the build-up diet, still without alcohol, but the idea that I can eat a rice cake makes me incredibly happy. The week in points.
– We both become huge victims of a massive slump around 4:00 PM. An elephant on the eyelids, legs and arms that feel like overcooked spaghetti, and a head that feels like it's full of cotton. Writing little pieces is quite a task, I can tell you, but we do our best and manage to get through it quite bravely.
– Last Monday we had a big Amayzine Editorial Meeting and normally that comes with a glass of bubbly, but now we were drinking large glasses of water and eating a gazpacho that, to be honest, was really delicious and completely homemade by May.
– Jet has really run a lot this week, she had energy to spare. So much energy that she brought her Eres jump rope because “I can jump rope so well now that I dare to do it in public.”
– But there were also moments when we lost sight of our discipline. Jet ate a piece of quinoa bread at her favorite hangout. Made from, indeed, quinoa, so it's not that bad, but technically it shouldn't be allowed.
– I was allowed to go on a press trip on Wednesday and Thursday, and that was of course doomed to fail. Detox-wise. Juicing was not an option, so I ate fruit and salads where possible. That went pretty well; you can find a healthy bite of vegetables almost everywhere these days. But on Thursday afternoon, around half past five, I suddenly found myself alone on the terrace of one of my favorite places, Café le Ruc, and I ordered a glass of white wine. That is really strictly forbidden, but I couldn't help it. I was in Paris, sitting in the sun, it just had to happen. The first sip brought a wave of happiness through me, but by the third sip, I was already a bit tipsy. I sipped the glass empty in three quarters of an hour, paid 10 euros (!!) for it, and happily headed to the Thalys on my way to Amsterdam.
– Today, Friday, we drank our last juices. We are both completely done with it. With those stupid supplements that are really disgusting, with the boring not-eating, just everything, we are done with it.
– That said, we are definitely seeing results. We are slimmer than ever, our trainer squealed with joy this morning during our workout when he saw us. “I see leg muscles! Real leg muscles! And Jet, I see two abs! HOW GOOD OF YOU!” We were very flattered and indeed, we also see that we are significantly slimmer than before.
– The trick is of course to maintain that. The fact that we are so slim now is not something that will last, and since we already have the first parties planned, that slim body won't last forever. But it has to stay fun, and we can't wait until we are done with the detox and it finally becomes fun again.
– We are excited to live again, although that may sound a bit heavy.
– Until next week!
