Travel along with May in the best week of the year, Paris Fashion Week. Entrance…
Phone call from restaurant The Jane in Antwerp. You know, the new love of Sergio Herman and the hottest restaurant of the moment. Of course, I couldn't manage to reserve three months in advance; I tried it two days ago. I ended up on a waiting list and was just called. We are welcome.
Keep in mind that the taxi driver doesn't know the address of The Jane, so keep Google Maps handy and go. You rarely eat better, more fun, and sexier (just look at the waiters, the waitresses) than there.
Since we were in Antwerp anyway, we might as well do some shopping. That shopping can also be a workout was evident. Lunch was skipped, and we walked from Zuid to the center to return with two jackets, three tops, a blanket coat, and a shirt. When I write it down like this, it doesn't seem so bad, but a lot of work went into it.
Sunday was a travel day. With my new boyfriend Renault Twingo we headed to Paris. There's little more enjoyable than driving into Paris itself. Especially when it's a brand new car that could count on applause from the normally so snobbish Parisians. “C’est sympa! C’est toute nouveau?” asks a stylish young man in a particularly hip little car.
A few days later, even Carine Roitfeld (I'm not making this up) calls out to me as I drive away from the Chanel show in my Twingo, “C’est jolie!”. I swear to you, this car is a hit.
The sun is shining, the périphérique is ‘fluide’ and I’m happily driving around the Place de la Concorde and the Eiffel Tower. In the afternoon, a drink invitation from Estee Lauder at le Marly where I not only meet my colleagues, the editors-in-chief, but also Micha Emmering from Micha Models. During fashion week, Paris is a village. Really.
On Monday evening, we have lunch at La Société. It's the same recipe as Costes and l’Avenue but without the Kim Kardashians and Kanye’s of this world, and that’s also quite peaceful at times. In the evening, I have an appointment in the courtyard of the Westin. Next to me is Micha again; what is it with us? And some models join in. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Natasha Poly, and Tony Garn, you know, the fresh ex of Leo di Caprio.
The next day is an early one. At six o'clock, I'm expected backstage at Chanel. I've never seen so many top models together. Gisele Bundchen, Cara Delevingne, Joan Smalls, Georgia May Jagger, Kendall Jenner, Ondria Hardin. My Dutch heart beats proudly when I see our delegation. Daphne Groeneveld, Maartje Verhoef, Julia Bergshoef, Saskia de Brauw. Who still talks about the tulip and the Dutch national team with these girls as export products?
After the show, we head home. To get back to work on some nice content. To stay on the modeling theme, I interview Micha Emmering about her successful fashion month and Marit Simons, among others, the agent of Imaan Hammam, the Dutch girl who made Anna Wintour's heart glow and ended up on the cover of Vogue US. More about that next time, dear viewers.
