– CRYOLIPOLYSIS –

Charlene Heezen, an all-round experienced editor who sometimes helps us out when someone is on vacation or half of the editorial team is doing fashion week, is writing a very exciting Tried & Tested today.

During our research research into the trends in cosmetic procedures for 2014, we got acquainted with cryolipolysis, a treatment in which fat is frozen locally on the body. This causes the fat cells in that area to die off and be naturally eliminated by the body. It's not even a completely new treatment, but it is one that is about to conquer the Netherlands as the non-surgical and cheaper alternative to liposuction. Our curiosity was intensely piqued. Freezing fat sounds a bit crazy, but if it can make those stubborn fat pockets disappear. Bring it on!

Hot and happening cosmetic doctor Annebeth Kroeskop (she had her white doctor's coat designed by Claes Iversen) invited us to her treatment table to tackle our least favorite area.

What does it promise?

By cooling certain body areas via a vacuum, the fat cells in the area die off and are gradually and naturally eliminated by the body through the liver and kidneys. On average, three treatments per area are needed, during which you lose between 1 – 3 centimeters after each treatment. Fat cells cannot divide, but can only shrink or become fuller. With Cryolipolysis, you permanently lose all fat cells in the treated area. Especially those stubborn ones.

Result

As someone with just a bit too much junk in the trunk , the story of cryolipo sounds like a fairy tale that is almost too good to be true. I exercise, eat healthy, and even when I train hard and eat lean, I still find my bootylicious for my taste. Hips, saddle bags, whatever you want to call them. They never leave me alone. So I embrace a method to permanently lose a few centimeters there with open arms (and legs). In the meantime, I just underwent my second treatment. The treatments are actually really easy. You lie on a heated chair for about 45 minutes while the machine does its thing. Everything is completely painless, and the bruises that were predicted turned out to be quite manageable for me. I found it perhaps most annoying that you can't drink alcohol in the days after the treatment to avoid disturbing the elimination of waste products.

Six weeks after my first treatment, I lost 1.5 centimeters per leg. Not bad. Before the second treatment, I received a piece of connective tissue massage. This is said to help tremendously against cellulite, but it does hurt a lot. The massage goes very deep after all. However, I found this quite manageable. I've been treated harder in Thailand. The third treatment is scheduled in six weeks. By then, the results of the cryolipo and connective tissue massage should really become visible. I'm incredibly curious! And so far, I'm also quite satisfied. To be continued.
