How to have
a haute Halloween
Tomorrow is Halloween. Now I don't know if you have a really cool party planned, but what I do know is that Halloween might be a bit too extravagant of a celebration for us Dutch people. At least, there are people who tackle a costume party with both hands and immediately give themselves a bloody face and bizarre wigs, but of course, there are also people who like to dress up a bit but really want to keep it within limits. That's why I've scoured the catwalk for haute make-up inspiration that is very fitting for the party of parties. A touch dramatic, but still quite responsible according to the autumn trends.
Black Beauty
Seen at Dries van Noten, Alexander McQueen, and Yamamoto; the heavily blackened eyes, preferably with lashes and eyebrows shaped like feathers. Feathers? Yes. Grand and captivating. It’s allowed. So get to work with dramatically large lashes. Backstage on the Rozengracht in Amsterdam has many accessories that can be very suitable for this look.
Dramatical Purple
Purple is not only a very beautiful color for an evening look, but it also looks very exciting and sensual. You can apply it lightly, then it does all its work, but you can also apply the eyeshadow wet, then the pigments are even more intense and it stays on longer. Quite handy if it’s a long Halloween.
Bloody Red
Normally, I don't really recommend red on the eyes. It can look a bit ‘sick’. You understand that it must not be missing in this post. Subtly apply it as eyeliner, in combination with black. Or you go for the Vivienne Westwood look with large red circles around the eyes. Red is also a beautiful color on the lips. Especially the example from Marras is beautiful, where dark red transitions to brown and black, creating a very special effect.
Nail-art
For the nails, choose glitter. It’s a party, so of course, you go all out. Two choices. You go for disco, so all colors mixed together, or you go for black. But then black in gradients. So matte black, glossy black, and black glitter mixed together. It’s definitely exciting. And a bit of work too.
Golden Girl
With this look, you might think you’re playing it safe, but it definitely looks festive. You really don’t have to be afraid of going overboard with the glitter, because it’s not a problem if they end up in the eyebrow or on the nose.
Paradise Bird
Not choosing from the above? Then just throw the whole color palette together, because it can't get crazy enough. Purple, blue, green, and orange are beautiful combinations. Let it blend nicely together, then it won’t look like a messy mess.
