Hilmar Mulder, editor-in-chief of Grazia, has never counted her collection of designer bags, but when I hear that three pieces are currently being used a lot, she also has a whole closet full and has stored some in boxes, I think it's quite a number. My bag
“I love my bag from C. Cruden, a Rotterdam designer I am friends with. I am blessed with very beautiful bags, this is not necessarily the most expensive, but it is very dear to me. It is a very fascinating and simple design. The handle resembles a plastic handbag, it is very soft leather and there are two different straps so I can carry it in different ways. At Jan Taminiau's anniversary party, I wore it as a clutch and for the office, I use the long strap crossbody. Whenever I wear this design, I receive compliments.‘
What’s in there?
“The only downside is that it’s a grab bag, so I often have to search. Generally, I always have too much with me. My phone, keychain, wallet, Mason Pearson brush, sunglasses, pens, charger (sometimes even two), Compeed blister plasters and occasionally a pair of ballerinas. As a backup. I also have the bad habit of taking my passport with me and I can’t live without Chanel’s Le Beige powder.”
Do you ever do a big clean-up?
“I try to keep it somewhat organized, especially since I often switch bags. Still, I sometimes manage to fish out ten different lipsticks from my bag.”
Do you prefer classic or trendy bags?
“I’m not someone who immediately goes for the it-bag. Yes, okay, I have a Chanel 2.55, I just had to have it, but that’s obviously a classic. Generally, I always try to make my own choice and not blindly follow trends. With this C. Cruden bag, you can see at a glance that it’s fashion, but it also has to be practical. I won’t keep carrying a bag endlessly if it’s not handy.‘
Do you take good care of them?
“In the kitchen, the bags I wear the most hang on a child’s chair and the rest are just neatly organized in the closet.”
Which bag is on your wishlist?
“The tie handbag crisped calfskin denim of Céline. Absolutely.”
