Beertje van Beers, gradually becoming a good friend of amayzine. She loves leopard print, is crazy about bamboo, and enjoys carrying bags with fringes. “It sways so sexy against my body.” Today she shares with us one of her favorite bags, indeed with bamboo.
How many bags do you have?
Oh dear, I never throw anything away, so I have quite a few. I think there are now about fifteen in circulation. I usually carry two bags with me. One for my laptop and a smaller one for my passport and little things.
Do you prefer trendy or classic? And does a bag also need to be practical?
I'm not really into it-bags; the brand doesn't need to be prominently displayed for me. So you won't see me quickly with a CHANEL. I'm anything but careful with my bags, so it's important that it's sturdy and can take a hit. That thing gets thrown into my bike basket a few times a day.
How did you get this beauty?
I got this bag from the designer of my7ways. They come in seven different colors, each with a meaning. This orange one stands for control. And since I could really use that because I'm a huge chaotic person, this bag fits me perfectly. And I also thought it was a nice color among my wardrobe, which only has black, white, and red.
What does a bag do for a woman?
A bag isn't necessarily sacred to me; if I had to choose between a bag or a pair killer heels the choice is quickly made. High heels make more of a statement.
What about the contents? Are you a chaotic person or neatly organized?
Total chaos. This bag does have an inner pocket that you can take out. I put the important things in there, like keys and phone. I usually stuff money loose in my coat, and the cards are in my iPhone case.
What do you always have with you?
Really everything. I could live out of my bag for days. Food, makeup, sunscreen, perfume, and a jar of tiger balm. My grandma always had a jar of tiger oil and dried mango in her bag, and it smelled so nice, that's why I always have that with me now.
If a woman could only have one bag, which would it be?
I'm a sucker for bamboo. So the Gucci Bamboo bag is high on my list, and a small trolley from Fireflies, I think that's absolutely amazing.
I have the Muse from Yves Saint Laurent that I would never ever part with. I bought it together with a friend with whom I share a love for a bit of ordinary stuff. Lots of leopard print and so on, you know how it is. I would never part with it.
