Nice gifts for under €20
If you go to someone's house for dinner, you should bring a little something. That's just nice. Of course, this doesn't always have to be the case with your friends you see weekly, but it is for people you don't see often and who have really invited you for dinner. I understand if you don't want to spend a fortune, so it doesn't have to be that way at all. I'll give you a few nice gift ideas for under twenty euros. This way, you definitely have a good opener. Now let's hope you get served a delicious meal.
Suggest bringing dessert. Handy, because then you can choose what you eat and for example go to the best pastry shop for a cake. Well, if you're going to indulge, do it right.
A flower is always a good idea. Don't go for a standard bouquet of roses. It's handy to know a bit about the style of the host or hostess. It's nice to go to a slightly more expensive shop where you can buy flowers individually. For twenty euros, you can get about eight different flowers. Sounds meager, but it's not because they are often very special and large.
Everyone really likes a bottle of olive oil. And not the most expensive from the supermarket, but go to a good delicatessen or an olive oil shop. In Amsterdam, there's Meeuwig & Zn. where you can tap the tastiest olive oil into a cool bottle with a swing top.
Have a nice photo printed and put it in a frame. It doesn't have to be too big, because otherwise they feel obliged to hang it on the wall, which is not necessary. Just small and subtle somewhere on the mantelpiece, in the hallway, or in the bathroom.
There's a good chance that the person inviting you loves to cook. Then a gift is quickly found. A cookbook, of course. Chicks love food has released the 5 or less cookbook. Very simple, dishes with a maximum of five ingredients. Beautiful photos, simple explanations, and delicious food.
I love scented candles and I also find them very nice to give. Diptique is quite pricey, but you also have them in a smaller version and thus cheaper.
Something for the kitchen is always nice. Step one foot inside a kitchen store and you'll come out with something nice for yourself too. Well, that always happens to me. A nice tea towel, a fun corkscrew, a fancy pepper mill, you can easily score something there for under twenty euros.
