BYE BYE WINTERBLUES

Coming home to a warm, cozy & comfy house is by far the best way to keep the winter blues at bay. Actually, just like you change your wardrobe with the seasons, you should also adapt your interior to summer or winter. Don't worry, I'm really not going to advise you to scrape your wallpaper off the wall or get busy with huge pots of paint and brushes. It's really simple....

5 SIMPLE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME WINTER-READY

While summer stands for airy and light, autumn and winter are associated with a more sheltered and rich feeling. So out with airy linen and cotton, it's time for wool, velvet, cashmere, and (faux) fur.

If you use materials like coarse woven wool and fur applied to decorative plaids and blankets to casually drape over your sofa or bed, your home will immediately look a lot warmer and cozier.

Scents play a very important role when it comes to creating an atmosphere. Whether it's the smell of homemade cookies or scented candles that smell like cinnamon or the scent of burning wood in the fireplace.... And what do you think of the aroma of a delicious soup or stew?

Nothing is worse than rolling out of bed on a winter day and feeling a cold floor under your feet. For a bedroom with a stone floor or tiles, I recommend laying down nice kilims in the winter. (my tip: the new collection of kilims from Ikea)

Change the strength and color of your lamps for more atmospheric and intimate light. And don't forget to give the outdoor lighting a little extra attention. Especially on dark days, it's nice if it's also a bit nicely lit outside. The easiest way to create atmosphere is of course candles.

One of the very first things I do when the seasons change is to fill both my bed and my sofa with extra large soft cushions that I can comfortably hide in while watching an exciting DVD. I prefer to keep the color choice a bit subdued. Winter is particularly suited for moody shades like mauve, taupe, and grays.

BRING ON THE WINTER... I AM READY FOR IT.

Have fun. Peggy
