In the hope that the December resolution along with the accompanying Christmas mantra Peace on Earth is deeply rooted, I am (how trivial) cautiously preparing for a recurring fashion dilemma: how do we chase away the winter blues and how do we welcome some new spring fashion into our look?

After putting away the ornaments, nothing in my closet seems fun enough, and moreover, the new collections are winking at me challengingly from behind the shop windows. Read my in-between season fashion tips to brighten up your winter look.

Tips

TRENDS

If you want to change something in that transitional period from winter to spring, look ahead to the trends that are coming and let them guide you.

JACKET

Say goodbye for now to that padded jacket and store it away until next winter or until you decide to go skiing. Instead, choose a wool or cashmere A-line sixties style jacket like many designers currently have in their collection.

BLUE DENIM

Everything in blue denim, jeans, or whatever you want to call it, is perfect for the in-between seasons fashion essentials (by the way: a fitted blue denim knee-length pencil skirt is a new must-have).

SHOW SKIN

Swap your turtleneck for a model with a lower or V-neck and your thick tights for a more transparent version. Better yet: wear no tights at all. If you see the street style photos of the fashionistas during NYFW (thick pack of snow), you will see that the real follower of fashion is wandering around barefoot and with bare legs...

SHOES

Unless you expect more snow, I advise you to replace those high heavy boots (think thick tread sole) with a more elegant (think narrow high heel) boot and preferably choose a nice gray, brown, or beige shade instead of black. Just as warm but still a bit more spring-like.

Our Elke (the translator) was walking around last week with the most beautiful color on her lips. Bright orange. So I was frantically searching in the beauty cabinet for a luxury look-alike to impress, only to find out hers was from HEMA. Well, here it is.

Perhaps the easiest way to respond to the changing seasons is to already add spring colors to your wardrobe.

MAKE-UP

This is the moment to refresh your makeup bag. A foundation for spring is usually a different shade. And a cheerful lipstick color is definitely the remedy to forget the winter blues.

Happy New Year
