6 always good restaurants in Amsterdam

On my bike through the city, I come across the nicest restaurants and bars. ‘Yes, I need to eat there soon.’ Then there’s a moment when I go out to dinner and I have no idea where I want to go. So I end up at one of my trusted places. Recognizable? I’ll give you six hotspots that are definitely good. Not too expensive, nice crowd, great service, and delicious food.

Bar Henk

A pop-up bar on the Prinsengracht run by three trendy Amsterdam girls. They have a small menu, which I prefer over a huge selection. Next to the restaurant is their Gin Tonic bar. Endless cocktails. My favorite is Gin Mare, with a sprig of rosemary and black olives.

Mata Hari

Good Burgundian food. Mata Hari has the ambiance of a real restaurant but the vibe of a cozy bar.

Volkshotel

On the 7ththe floor is the restaurant with an amazing view over Amsterdam. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside. Even more beautiful. You don’t have to leave the building all evening, because if you feel like dancing, there’s Club Canvas, and if you still don’t want to go home, you can book a room.

Foyer

A restaurant in one of the most beautiful buildings in Amsterdam on the Prinsengracht. Mainly food from Dutch soil. A separate menu that only states the ingredients of a dish: Potato, anchovy, and hangop (so to speak). What they’ve done with it only becomes clear when it’s on your plate. A wonderful wine list and they give good wine advice. Young, hip, and engaged staff.

BAK

Organic, but super trendy. Start with a cocktail and then choose a menu of 3, 4, or 6 courses. Un-be-liev-ably delicious. Try to reserve a table by the window. Great view.

Van ’t Spit

The tastiest chicken in Amsterdam. Says enough.
