KARL, CARA AND PHARRELL UNPACK

Perhaps the most beautiful show of Chanel is the métier d’art. In it, Chanel ‘celebrates’ the craftsmanship and artistry involved in creating couture and luxury prêt-à-porter.

Not so long ago, the ‘houses’ that made lace for the shows or corsages, hats, and shoes were threatened to disappear. There was no new influx, there was too little money. Chanel bought all those houses, hat maker Maison Michel, embroiderers Lésage, shoemaker Massaro, button maker and feather and hat maker Desrues. Once a year, Karl and all those disciplines go all out. In their métiers d’art show, which each year has a city as a theme that Gabrielle Chanel had a connection with. Bombay, Texas, Edinburgh, and yesterday Salzburg.

Because Karl, in addition to his two prêt-à-porter shows, two couture collections, this métier d’art, his work for Fendi and for KL still had quite a bit of time left, he directed a mini film. Of course, it had to have some A-list material in the lead role, you understand. Girlfriend Cara was summoned, Pharrell flown in, and because she is the very best interpretation of Gabrielle Chanel, Geraldine Chaplin was also invited.

Look and you immediately book that winter sports trip to an Austrian resort. Of course, with Cara's hair. And Pharrell's jacket.
