ROLLING HOME
With a bag full of wine and Jillz (Jillz yes. A kind of apple cider. It might have a bit of a Breezer flavour but it's really quite nice for a sunny day in the park) I jumped on my bike with girlfriends yesterday to the Rolling Kitchens. An annual food festival in Westerpark.
It was also packed. If you were in the mood for a burger or lobster with fries, you had to set aside at least half an hour for that. It sounds annoying, but it wasn't. The atmosphere was good, we were well supplied with drinks anyway, there was sunshine and plenty to see. The crowd was mixed but mostly very stylish. I saw so many cute well-dressed young girls and boys. Lots of festival outfits. Denim shorts, maxi skirts, cropped tops, ties in the hair, backpacks. I was looking my eyes out.
“There were also crazy things available though, like: Green burgers( made from seaweed), deep-fried grasshoppers and mealworm croquettes.”
There were more than 30 eateries where you could get something tasty. Oysters, caviar, pretzels, fresh pasta, chicken from the grill, sushi. Crazy stuff too mind you, like: Green burgers( made from seaweed), deep-fried grasshoppers and mealworm croquettes. I let those pass me by. I opted for the Ethiopian. A pancake topped with mashed peas, lentils, and stir-fried kale. Delicious it was. I ate it with my hands, as it should be. Afterwards, I couldn't resist shaking my own smoothie. I did so on a bicycle. When I pedalled, the shaker would spin. Bit gnarly, but funny.
Here and there another pizza was bought, homemade ravioli, and ice cream made of caramel and salted butter. We all snacked a little on each other. We descended on a large rug on the lawn, as the sun slowly set, still broiling skin. We chatted and laughed. When it was really down, I cycled home. What a wonderful evening.
