Sisley Spa heaven
Every world city has its own pilgrimage hotel. In Paris, you must go to Plaza Athenee, Le Meurice, and the Ritz; in London, you go to the Savoy, and when in New York, you ‘do’ a Waldorf but also definitely meet friends at the bar of The Carlyle.
I love the Carlyle for several reasons. It is located on Madison Avenue, which needs no explanation. It has a jazz bar where great artists perform. Mick Jagger reportedly has a pied-à-terre there for when he is in New York, and John F. Kennedy had an apartment on the 34th floor.
The story goes that John F. Kennedy smuggled Marilyn Monroe in through the secret tunnel system. In an interview with the bellboy who worked the longest at The Carlyle, he says that John F. Kennedy knew the underground snake system better than he did.
Anyway, the Carlyle then. An iconic place. Another draw is the spa that resides in the hotel. A Sisley spa, to be precise. These are the best spas that are also located in the most beautiful places. Think South France, Mauritius, and New York.
Can you feel it coming? I was allowed to unwind for an hour and be pampered during New York Fashion Week. Keep in mind that it was -15 outside, I had a serious jet lag, and I had been racing through the city for six days from show to showroom. In the Sisley spa, it was warm and cozy.
There were nuts, dried fruits, glasses with paper lids (which I really enjoy), and in the changing room, everything a person could need was available. From cotton pads to shower caps to a tampon for a little ‘oops, forgot’ situation. The treating lady chose a moisturizing treatment for me. I could use that after all the biting wind, snow, frost on the left, and then extremely heated hotels on the right.
Want to try it at home? For a bit of luxury spa feeling, pamper yourself with the hydrating Lotion Tonique Aux Fleurs, remove dead skin cells with crème gommante pour le visage, All Day All Year cream for your face, and for the eyes, Supremÿa Yeux.
Honestly, I stepped out of the lobby feeling reborn and could step onto the plane home with a face as if I hadn't just had a hysterical week.
If you don't have a trip to New York planned, you can just take your shot of Sisley at douglas.nl. It's such a luxury, pure (because completely plant-based), and amazing brand.
