There it is

The Chanel commercial with Michiel Huisman

When I, with much chest thumping and drumroll, say that ‘our’ Michiel Huisman is starring in the new campaign for Chanel No 5, the question that follows is always the same. “Is that for the Dutch market?”

The idea that a Dutch actor has been chosen to share a kiss with Gisèle is hard for people to accept. But it’s not like there was an Expeditie Robinson-like setting where each country had a different actor taking turns playing their scene with Gisèle. You didn’t seriously think that.

No, it’s just our Michiel. The story goes that the director of Game of Thrones, where Michiel has a major role, is friends with Baz Luhrmann, the director of the No 5 campaign. I can imagine that next to Gisèle you want someone who has the looks and can act very well (voilà, Michiel) but maybe not yet that huge fame that makes it easier to identify with. Otherwise, it would be a very star-studded spectacle. Carice van Houten, Anyway, it’s Michiel and he plays his role grandly in all his smallness. There is no speaking, actually. But there is watching. And….

Last week I got to see all the versions and all the making ofs and all the interviews

with the creators and really… I am captivated. By Gisèle’s butt, Michiel’s gaze, the clothing (everything, everything, everything I want to have, even the sneakers and that says a lot) and the music. My oh my, that music is grand. Because I had to sign quite a hefty confidentiality agreement, I won’t say anything. Just watch for yourself, I would say. Today an amuse, tomorrow and Wednesday we serve the real deal.

Enjoy and cheers to Michiel.
