Hands on

– The manual against dry hands –

At the editorial office, we are incredibly fond of hand creams. Tubes from HEMA, Aveda, Avene, Herome, Molton & Brown are in abundance here. Okay, in the summer we sometimes forget to apply a bit, but now our hands are so dry that it's only normal to apply a little. We also shouldn't think about the fact that we might later get those wrinkled hands, which would secretly reveal our age. We do our best. And after reading the following, you will too. Because it helps you through the autumn, but actually also the rest of your life.

If your hands feel a bit dry, it's best to scrub them. OPI has a nice one, namely Avoplex Revitalizing Hand & Body Scrub, which smells nice and works with natural sugar crystals, giving you really soft hands. I also use it sometimes in the shower to scrub my feet, but do be careful that your entire bathroom is not covered in a layer of oil and that you don't slip. It does indicate how soft it is. No hand scrub? Then use a facial scrub, as that is just a bit milder. Rinse it off with warm water and all dead skin cells will be gone from your hands. Also handy are for example the handfiller gloves from Filorga. You wear them for twenty minutes, just while watching a movie or typing some emails, and afterwards your hands are silky soft again, dead skin cells have waved goodbye and skin aging is postponed for a while.

Not very sexy, but guaranteed that you will wake up with silky soft hands. For extremely soft hands, you should apply a mask or just a thick layer of hand cream in the evening, and wear cotton gloves over it. I recommend, if you dare, those painter's gloves, as woolen mittens don't seem very comfortable to me. Why does it work? At night, all the ingredients of the cream penetrate the skin, hydrating the hands and repairing cracks. In the morning, take off the gloves and you're ready for the day.

Every time you wash your hands, you also remove a bit of the natural protective layer from your skin. Always apply hand cream. It's really not an unnecessary luxury, as with every wash your hands become drier and drier.

Real age is often guessed by hands. We slather ourselves with creams and also know how to conceal some things with a good foundation and powder. However, we often forget our hands. Because hands have to endure so much, phew, they have it tough, but also if we forget to apply a bit, you often see wrinkles, lines, age spots, and hanging skin earlier. So if you're generously applying anti-aging cream to your face, don't forget to put a drop on your hands. A nice bonus.

The sun gives you a tan, but in the long run, it also causes wrinkles, spots, and other issues. You don't want that. Not on your hands either, because when the first wrinkles appear there, you immediately look years older. A hand cream with SPF is therefore really not an unnecessary luxury. Even in winter, the sun shines, so even then you should apply layers.

Dry cuticles and skin are painful, not nice, and especially not well-groomed to see. With a scrub, you remove some of that, but make sure to also hydrate your cuticles well. There are plenty of nice oils with which you can apply a thin layer and keep everything supple. You can also apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly in the evening and massage it in. Oils with vitamin E are good because they boost the hydration level again. Oh, and a nail polish also helps to make your hands look well-groomed. Nude is always good.

  1. Massaging keeps everything supple and ensures good blood circulation. You don't need to set aside hours for it, but just loosening your hands from the keyboard, rubbing them, and loosening your finger joints helps to give a healthy color. Oh, and of course, less cold hands.
