This is the moment

THAT JOB IS FOR YOU

It's Monday, it's gray. You have no excuse. It's the perfect day to apply for that dream job. I'm going to help you. If anyone has gone through college job interviews, it's me. Think of confused executive producers who had me come back three times because I was just too young for the job in question or an overly strict Marie Claire director who completely ignored every joke or attempt at interpersonal contact (completely ignored interpersonal contact) that was before I realized my dress was inside out). I have been around the block and got the jobs and I share my application tips with you because you deserve that nice job and because it will change your life. Really.

1. Be prepared

My beloved and I (once we managed RTL Boulevard together as editors) have sent someone away during a job interview because she hadn't seen the broadcast from the night before. That shows you don't breathe current events. Continuing the conversation was a waste of our time. Harsh but hey, did anyone say we were here for the fun?

2. Aim high

Say out loud what you want to become and add a little extra because you can always do more than you think. Moreover, it shows that you are ambitious and believe in yourself.

3. Look the part

Wear the look that fits your job. I would always recommend a blazer because it exudes authority. If the job is more office-like, wear a blouse underneath. If you're more in the creative corner, I would wear a shirt underneath and nice skinny jeans. Make sure to have a good bag. For my part, you can snatch it from your most fashionable friend, borrow it from your mother, but really, the bag does the trick. Furthermore, I seriously recommend a heel. No sexy leopard print but a neat Gucci or Jimmy Choo will do. Women in heels earn more, as a study by Glamour once showed, so know what you have to do. I find a sneaker or a ballerina nice, but during an interview, I really fall for a heel. It exudes class and strength.

4. Ask questions

You position yourself as less dependent and show interest in the company when you ask questions about the job's responsibilities, growth opportunities in the company, their vision on digital or whatever.

5. Arrive on time

So actually a bit early. Then you can still go to the bathroom, run a brush through your hair, and calmly prepare for what is to come. You have your printed CV (with photo, otherwise it looks like you have something to hide) with you, it could very well be that the person you are speaking with has been too busy to print it out and you are already showing that you are there to make his/her life easier. And oh yes, you don't talk about money during the first interview. You are so good that you assume you will completely agree on this.
