This is how you conquer the morning after a party
Admit it. You had just a few too many glasses last night and now you're standing in front of the mirror with a concealer in your hand to work on the dark circles under your eyes. Good plan. At least, after you've tried all the previous options. Or after a bad night: these tips! And with the tips below, you'll get even more out of your concealer and really shine throughout the day. Not just today, but also tomorrow. And the day after that. And actually always.
If you also use foundation, apply that first and then your concealer. The result will be prettier and this way you can also perfectly gauge how much you actually need and where you might need a bit more coverage.
The best way to apply your concealer is not by dabbing some spots under your eyes here and there or worse: casually smudging the stripes. What you should do is create a sort of triangle shape under your eye down to the tip of your cheek. This not only covers the dark circles, but also gives your face a sort of lift. A nice bonus.
If you don't have an eyeshadow primer on hand, use concealer as a base for your eyeshadow. Light-colored eyeshadows hide puffy eyes and that's what you want. What you don't want is for eyeshadow to settle in the circles of your eyelid. With a bit of concealer, the eyeshadow stays prettier and lasts longer, and the color looks even better.
Trouble with a red complexion? First use a green concealer to brighten the color a bit and then use the concealer in your normal shade. This way, you keep everything a bit balanced.
You grab the green concealer when you have a pimple. With a pimple you also apply a bit of green concealer around the pimple (not on it!) and then cover it with the normal concealer. You set it with a translucent powder so that you can hardly see it.
Not a fan of concealer? You can also work well with foundation, just don't use too much of it. Because foundation is so liquid, you often think you've used too little. Use a dot, wait until it's well absorbed, and then start layering. Otherwise, you'll really feel like you've plastered something under your eyes.
Use a concealer that is slightly lighter than your skin tone and apply it in three spots. So the V under your eyes, on your eyelid, and just under your brow bone. Then blend it out a bit. The lighter color gives you a healthy look.
Blend concealer with your ring finger. This is your weakest finger and you'll get the best result with it. Trust me, leave your index finger out of it for a moment, otherwise you'll get streaks.
Know what different colors of concealer do for you. Peach colors correct dark and blue circles, green hides red spots, and yellow concealers correct almost all uneven skin tones.
You can hide puffy eyes with a bit of eye cream, a highlighter, and a concealer. Mix all the products on your hand and apply the mixture under your eyes, but also under your brow. That's often such a forgotten spot. You can correct the bottom, but then it pops out at the top again. Additionally, you can lift the eyebrows a bit by applying some concealer under your brow. The light makes everything look a bit more ‘up’.
After applying your concealer, gently go over it with a tissue. This prevents the concealer from settling into the circles and making you look ten years older.
Got a bit messy with your eyeliner? You can scrub a lot, but then you run the risk of it becoming streaky and thus more noticeable. It's better to correct with your concealer.
Lipstick looks much prettier and stays better when you apply concealer around the lines of your mouth. This way, lipstick can never bleed and it can't accidentally settle in the lines around your mouth. Additionally, the shape of your lips looks sharper. By the way, concealer also works very well as a base for your lipstick.
Want to make your eyes look even bigger? Then first fill in the middle part of your lips with concealer. Just like the shape of the imprint when you give a kiss. Then smudge it out with your fingers and apply the lipstick. Really, it gives a very nice blurred effect and your lips look just a bit bigger.
With concealers, you can also accentuate or highlight contours well. To shape, use two shades darker than your skin tone and highlight with two shades lighter. If you use concealer pens, you have much more control over their placement, making shaping much easier. Draw the lighter colors on the areas you want to lighten and use darker colors where you want to create a shadow. Just make sure to blend it with a nice brush, because you don't want to see the stripes in the end.
