VOGUE VS ELLE, THE BATTLE

Tomorrow they will be in stores, the most important issues of the fashion year. You should really buy them all, for the sake of fashion that is, but if your budget only allows for one issue, Liesbeth and I did some research. Well, research. It turned into a real battle.

Liesbeth is team ELLE (I also really love ELLE, vespecially now that Hilmar Mulder is editor-in-chief) but Liesbeth is simply genetically predisposed to ELLE so she had the first birthright. Now I didn't mind being team Vogue at all because that would give me a better chance of winning. Here we go. Ready?

1. The scent

Few things smell better than a freshly printed magazine. Both titles received douze points.

2. The weight

Once a year, fashion girls wish to be the heaviest. And that is now. Especially for the occasion, Liesbeth (really the one I least expected) brought her kitchen scale. Vogue weighed 707 grams, ELLE 601. Although Liesbeth actually considered that a plus and rattled off phrases like ’nice and compact“ and ”fashion girls must always be light“.

3. The number of pages

Of course, this is closely related to the weight, but still, you could have used heavier paper. In any case, Vogue has 260 pages, ELLE 244. “Barely differs” I hear someone on the right say. I don't listen to that further.

4. Number of advertisements

In creative circles, the number of advertisements is of utmost importance. Vogue shows 67, ELLE 74. And yes, there is also a hierarchy in the type of advertisement. Vogue opens with CHANEL, ELLE with Polo Ralph Lauren. Well. Then we take a look at cover 4 (the back of the magazine) ELLE has Gucci and Vogue has Louis Vuitton. Now Vuitton is ranked higher in the hierarchy than Gucci, but we find the Gucci advertisement so much prettier that we, okay, let ELLE win. It's arbitrary, I know.

5. Number of fashion series

Vogue shows itself as the fashion mother by placing 5 series against 4 from ELLE.

6. Highlight Vogue

The shining role of Marije Goekoop, the most beautiful series are hers.

7. Highlight ELLE

the too funny and handy piece by Stefanie Bottelier and Ilonka Leenheer where they WhatsApp each other their fashion purchases and gossip.

8. Cover texts

Here ELLE beats Vogue. Why? Vogue has only three cover texts (one of which is about babies), ELLE has 7 topics that all scream, will, must be read.

9. Cover

I'm throwing in Lara Stone because hey, she is of a much larger stature than Sophie Droogendijk, the cover model of ELLE. But Lara also seems a bit worn out because she will soon be on the first cover of Harper’s Bazaar .

In short, Liesbeth thinks that ELLE has won. I know better but I'm fine with it. I love them both.
