Acne Studios, what are you doing now?!

There is a rather thin line between fashion and idiocy. Between beautiful and art, between artistic and wearable. Fashion is art and clothes are not always fashion, and not all clothes are equally beautiful and taste is subjective. So much for the open doors. Last week I was scrolling unsuspectingly and completely innocently through the Acne Studios webshop and found a rather striking hat and gloves. Fine, Acne is known for always pushing that edge of beautiful and idiotic, but this time I actually just had to laugh really hard. Especially at the styling, come on now, this really works your laugh muscles? That hat costs a staggering €600, people. Six-hundred euros for a kind of blue knitted Calimero eggshell. It must be my narrow-minded brain that isn't artistic enough for this madness, but you know, I'm doing it for that.

Further down in the webshop, I found the Ava Lazercut Brown, elbow-length mittens made of fur. Oven mitts. That's what they are. Oven mitts for 700 euros, mind you, but still really just oven mitts. Do you all remember that movie Iep, about that bird girl? They look like that. A bird girl with oven mitts. By the way, blogger Bryan Boy doesn't really care about it, he likes one oven mitt more or less. I mean, come on now!

Oven mitts. That's what they are. Oven mitts for 700 euros, mind you, but still really just oven mitts.

It won't be the first time I don't understand why something is beautiful. Or why some people find it beautiful. I get the impression, like with Bryan Boy, that it's just about provocation. Which is fun in itself, it's also boring to always color within the lines, but I always understand these kinds of things better when they are seen on the catwalk or in a fashion series. Where it’s about fashion and art while in real life you certainly don't have to walk around like a walking artwork?

Then we haven't even talked about the practical side, how does one move with such mittens?! How do you grab your keys? How do you open a door? That just can't be done, right? And what about your coat? Do you wear it underneath? Does that fit? HOW THEN?! So many questions, so few answers. If someone could explain to me why this hat and gloves would be a good idea, I would be more than happy to listen.
