1 January. What to do?!

On a group WhatsApp it was decided three days ago what to do on January 1st. Of course first stink in your bed until you've had enough, but then we HAVE to go outside. Seriously, I always find January 1st an incredibly awful day. I don't know exactly why, but somehow I'm always a bit down or something. Another 365 days have passed, you're lying godforsaken hungover in your bed and that's the start of making it a banging year. Bad start. So: Go. Outside. Do something! We have now agreed to catch a movie in the afternoon, I believe it's going to be Gooische Vrouwen and then a bottle will be opened somewhere. Yep, that's the only medicine. Probably there will also be a few bitterballen or a cheese stick for the enthusiasts and then everyone will be in a great mood again.

So, my tip to you is: Go. Do. Something. The New Year's dive? That's a bit too far for me, but I would find you a huge tough guy if you did that. I'll give you some pubs in Amsterdam that will welcome you with open arms to ring in January 1st (once again).

One of my favorite restaurants in De Baarsjes. The tap opens at 11 o'clock. They also have many different types of gin tonic on the menu. If you're brave enough, I can highly recommend it.

A cozy brown café at the Nieuwmarkt and I find them incredibly cool because their doors open at 10 o'clock. If you're lucky, you'll get a free bitterball.

A brown café in the middle of the Jordaan where I have ordered a sambuca many times in my life (yep, guilty pleasure). It's quite busy here on January 1st, but incredibly cozy. And a bit further is a very good pizza maker where you can order the tastiest margarita.

You can also ring in the new year in a very fancy way by having a cocktail at the bar of Izakaya. You can have a nice sashimi or some tempura with it. From around one o'clock, you're very welcome, so if you start early, you'll also finish early, right?

Across from Izakaya is Café Binnen Buiten. That's a very brown pub with a large terrace with heat lamps. Very cozy. The staff stays in bed a little longer there, because from four o'clock the glasses can be clinked.

At Stop 3 you can order your bottle of wine or glass of bubbles at one o'clock and if you're a bit hungry at six o'clock, there's a delicious kitchen, but you can also move to the neighbors at Meat West. What do you think of a large piece of côte de boeuf? Seems perfect against the hangover and a good start to the new year.
