5 reasons why it's nice to buy a designer piece

My friend M's biggest dream? A phone call from her father saying: “Honey, don't worry. I'll take care of it. From now on, you will have an unlimited account at Net-A-Porter.” Unfortunately, this remains a dream for M, for me and probably for you too. Of course we shop a lot on sale (sorry...), at H&M and Zara but ooo the great pleasure you experience when you buy a deisgner piece....

The shop itself is already a treat. Make sure you go in there a bit well-dressed, yes you can get very complicated there about it, but those are just the codes. If you show that you appreciate fashion, the staff will jump at the chance, serve coffee or maybe even a nice glass of soda.

Your purchase will be packed with love and attention. Make sure you are not in a hurry, as this may take some time. Your bag will get a dustbag, your dustbag will get a blotting paper and all that then goes back into a box. And the box goes into a bag. Which is tied together with ribbons. You are wished the best of luck with your purchase, the door is held open for you and you walk out the door like a princess.

Every time you wear or use your designer piece, you enjoy it. Of the logo that subtly appears on the buckle of my Gucci shoe, for example. Of the glasses cloth in the brand's pattern, of the pretty box where the sunglasses inside, from the beautifully finished lining and from the credit card that says you can use a official piece to deal with. Oh guys, it's so nice.

The outfit upgrade. You can keep everything nice and affordable. With a good glasses, shoe and bag you're just ready. Roll out of bed in sweatpants and hopscotch to the Starbucks? No worries, with those accessories, they'll think it's all meant to be and you're propelled in the name of fashion.

The service.... I bought not necessarily very expensive earrings from Chanel the other day. Coco Chanel felt it was important to have affordable pieces alongside her Haute Joaillerie and combined fake with real which is why Chanel still has a pretty affordable, great jewellery collection. Anyway, I bought a pair of earrings there and received mail a few weeks later. From the boutique. To thank me for my purchase and treat me to their most beautiful magazine. And if I have been a little too careless with my bag and I happen to be in the shop, they take it through the car wash there. I also once experienced that my necklace had broken. My fault, the pendant snagged on my daughter's hair. When the ladies at Chanel found out, the necklace went straight to Paris. When I got it back, it was back in a box, polished and ready to go, surrounded by tissue paper, in a bag with a camellia on it....

5 reasons why buying a designer piece is so satisfying

My friend M's ultimate dream? A phone call from her father saying: “ Honey don't worry. I'll take care of it. From now on you have an unlimited account on Net-A-Porter.” This will remain a dream for my friend, for me, for all of us probably. Of course we shop during sale (sorry) at H&M and Zara, but ooh, the kick you get out of buying a designer piece....

First

Entering the store is the start of the party. Make sure you're dressed the part. Things might seem a little complicated but there are ‘the codes’. If you show them you appreciate fashion the staff will spur into action, serve coffee or maybe even refreshments. They will thank you for your purchase and hold open the door so you can walk out like a princess.

Second

Your purchase will be wrapped with care, don't be in a hurry cause this might take a while. You bag is put into a dust bag that is wrapped in tissue paper and all this goes into a box. The box of course goes into a bag that is closed by tying two ribbons together.

Third

Every time you wear your designer piece you enjoy it. For example; the subtle label that livens up the buckle on my Gucci shoe. The microfibre clothe with designer print and logo that come with your sunglasses and the pretty case to keep it in. The perfect finish and the warrantee that proves your purchase is authentic. Fab-u-lous.

Fourth

The outfit upgrade. You can keep everything else sensible and affordable. A pair of good sunglasses, shoes and designer bag, and you're done. You can roll out of bed in your jogging pants and straight into Starbucks, no worries. No one will stare at you; they'll all believe you are doing all this in the name of fashion just judging by your accessories.

Fifth

The service.... I recently bought a pair of, not so very expensive earrings, in a Chanel store. Coco Chanel thought it important to offer affordable pieces alongside her haute joaillerie and to combine fake with real, one of the reasons Chanel still offers a relatively affordable jewellery collection. Anyway, I was treated to one of their exclusive magazines as a thank you for my purchase. And if I have neglected my bag and happen to be in the neighbourhood, they will put it through the bag wash for me, giving it back good as new. Once I broke the chain of my bag, my fault the chain got caught in my daughter's hair. When I told them this, the chain went straight to Paris. I got it back, polished and wrapped in tissue paper in a cute little box that came in a bag with a camellia attached to it....
