Things we love
– the bike –
Recently we have a new colleague in the office. Blue Ivy. Basically, it's just a bike, but this bike is actually very special with its blue color and cool design. Liesbeth got it during a trip from Levi's and since then this bike has become our editorial girlfriend. Girlfriends always have a name and since we take it out quite often, it's only polite to name it. So said, so done, and that's why the bike was named Blue Ivy. It's often quite funny when someone says they're going out with Blue Ivy and we also feel a bit offended when someone asks to borrow the bike. It's not just a bike. It's Blue Ivy.
At home, I have my own bike called the Mole. It's pitch black and not very fast, so I thought that was quite an appropriate name. Liesbeth comes to the office every day with Daisy. A bright pink bike that is almost falling apart from misery, but her name lifts that misery a bit. And in Amsterdam, I have the spotted panther. A bike that I once had completely spray-painted gold, but the gold ran off during the first rain shower. Moreover, it's really a survivor, because even though it falls apart from misery, it remains very loyal in bringing me everywhere and is thus living up to its name.
Our bikes, they are sacred. Duh, we don't give them favorite names for nothing. They are really seen as part of our family. So don't mess with our bike. Then you're messing with us. Consider yourself warned.
