A HOUSE PARTY

HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

That storm last week, remember? Caused a lot of blown-over bicycles, non-running buses, and canceled outdoor parties. And that last one was just the best thing that could happen in my weekend. Suddenly, house parties sprang up like mushrooms. There we were, jumping with a hundred people in a living room. But what is the ultimate formula for a successful living room party?

The music

Seems pretty logical to me, but music makes or breaks your party. A dock where you plug in your iPhone might be nice for romantic background music, but it doesn't work for a house party. Rent quality speakers and make a playlist in advance. Also, make sure people don't play their own songs uninvited. “The music is already filled in for the whole evening.” Period.

The light

The space can be ugly, but with a disco ball or colored lamp, you instantly create a little palace and set the mood. There are also balloons with LED lights inside. Costs nothing, has the coziness of candles, but no fire hazard.

Another advantage of a dark room: people look good all evening. You can't see them well anyway.

Come up with a theme

I really like themed parties. Not only because you have to think about an original outfit, but it also creates a sense of togetherness. Plus, you immediately have a conversation starter. “So where did you buy your Superman suit?”

Build up enthusiasm

Create a Facebook event and post a fun teaser every now and then. For example, by first giving hints about the theme or posting music clips of the cool songs that will be played. You can bet your guests will be jumping up and a line will form at the front door.

Plastic

Believe me, I really don't think it's chic to drink from plastic cups. But you don't want to worry about shards throughout the evening. And there are definitely decent-looking cups, like these from the Ap for example.

Own drinks

Maybe a bit Dutch, but ask people to bring their favorite drink for themselves. That way, you can be sure there's enough and that people like it. Additionally, sharing each other's different drinks also creates some extra bonding.
