I really always wonder how Janine always manages in her life. She has her site Prêt-à-Pregnant, but also two kids, of whom her youngest Jade-Ming is just a month old, and she still manages to maintain all her friendships and appears at every presentation. Admittedly, with a Chanel bag and her newest (and much more fun acquisition, if I may say so) love Jade-Ming. And yet, Janine somehow manages to be in shape again remarkably quickly and to hide her sleepless nights. And because I was so curious about that, I asked her a few beauty questions. And she typed them out with love for me, between feeding the baby and appointment number two.
Morning ritual
“Mornings are always busy at our place. Especially now that our baby has been born. I have my fixed morning ritual and have trained myself to put on my makeup in 5 minutes. Once I’ve dressed Fabian and he’s out the door, I jump in the shower. I usually wash my hair in the evening and then go to bed feeling fresh. In the morning, I give my hair some extra volume with dry shampoo and some powder at the roots. I also thoroughly cleanse my face in the evening with La Mer and Sensai so I can start fresh in the morning. For the night, I use a cream from La Prairie.’
5 minutes make-up
“So I’m used to doing my makeup in five minutes. After I shower, I always use Advanced Night Repair by Estée Lauder. A lovely serum that my skin responds well to. Then I use the primer from Laura Mercier and a foundation from Chanel or Dior. I always cover my dark circles with Touche Éclat. Furthermore, I never leave the house without eyeliner and my MAC lipstick. I always highlight my eyes with a light eyeshadow and smudge my eyeliner with a darker eyeshadow.”
Eyebrows or eyelashes?
“Eyebrows! They say so much about your face! I don’t have many eyelashes of my own, and because of my eyeliner, it’s less noticeable that I don’t have mascara on than if I had very different eyebrows.”
Favorite perfume?
“For years, I’ve been using Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf. But I can also make a detour to Givenchy Dahlia Divin, J’Adore by Dior, or Jo Malone.”
Nails
“I always have a nail polishp. It completes your outfit, and I find it very important to have well-groomed hands and nails. I usually paint my nails in the evening when the kids are in bed. I do have to touch them up often because all the typing for my work makes it come off quickly. My favorite brands are Givenchy, Dior, and Chanel because I think they look nice in my bathroom too. But I also use a lot of OPI, Essie, and Collistar.”
Baby time
“I adjusted my beauty ritual a bit during my pregnancy. I gained 22 kilos during this pregnancy and still need to lose five kilos. I’m going to start exercising again next week. I think a lot of my health and thus beauty comes from within. I am very happy with the birth of Jade-Ming, and I also feel very happy with my work. That really is half the battle. Additionally, I will do everything to show up every day with makeup on. You won’t catch me without makeup easily. I am convinced that you look good when you feel good. I feel good with my lipstick, eyeliner, and powder on my face. I did apply a lot during the pregnancy. I found the oil from Weleda, Yentl, and Bio Oil very nice for my belly. For my body, I use Kenzoki and La Mer.”
Million Dollar Tip
“With my busy schedule, I unfortunately don’t have time to regularly have my hair nicely blow-dried before I go to an event. But with a simple curling iron, hair powder, hairspray, and a teasing comb, I can transform my hair in 10 minutes. I quickly curl the ends and tease my hair, and I’m ready for the event in no time. Another secret is that I drink at least two liters of water every day and have completely stopped drinking coffee. I was really a coffee lover, but combined with little sleep, my skin became very dull. Oh, and the last one is walking outside a lot with the dog. Every day, I walk with him for about an hour, and I notice that it’s good for my skin and good for my body.”
Budget
“I think I spend about €100 a month on beauty products. I find good care so important. Especially in my profession. With the right beauty products and my ritual, I feel better in my skin and feel better. Especially now that I have two small children, I notice that my skin needs more care. Additionally, I am for preventive application because if you prevent this, you won’t have to inject or cut later.”
Beauty blunder
“When I look back at the photos from my Hotel School period, I sometimes see that I was orange. Because of all the parties and little sleep, I felt like I was pale. I then had a kind of bronzing foundation. In hindsight, way too orange, and no one told me…”
