Celebrity yo-yo

They might have access to the best personal trainers and nutritionists in the world but even celebrities aren’t immune to weight problems. Just as for ‘ordinary people’ it’s an uphill battle and they could end up rolling down only to get up again to conquer the mountain. Today we’re taking a look at some famous yo-yo dieters.

Just recently Kelly Clarkson had a fall out with a British reporter who commented on her weight. The American singer has become a little rounder since the birth of her daughter but is, in her own words, just as happy. “They called me fat when I was on Idols. Sometimes I eat more and sometimes less. I personally don’t have any problem with that.”

Oprah has always been an open book when it comes to weight issues and shared her own ups-and-downs on her show on national TV. When she was thin she weighed about 70 kilos but because of thyroid gland problems and an unhealthy lifestyle she almost ticked 100. In her O Magazine she said: “It’s not my goal to become thin, it’s my goal to have a strong and healthy body. I want to learn to embrace my body and be grateful for what I have.”

Kirstie Alley has lost almost 100 kilos over the years. At her heaviest she weighed over 110 kilos but thanks to a Jenny Craig and her American weight loss program she lost 35 kilos. A few years later when the Look Who’s Talking actress was asked to join Dancing With the Stars she was up to size 44. But all that prancing about and those daily repetitions left her with a size 40. Kristie entered for a second time and said; “I don’t care about first place I just want to be a size 36.”

In 1999 at the start of her career she was thin according to the public opinion. Nowadays she has a rounder figure and depending on her line of work she undergoes major weight shifts. “I have been criticized for being too fat and too thin but I love my body. My husband loves my body. We have a happy healthy son and the rest is unimportant.”

After losing a lot of weight for her part in The Dukes of Hazzard in 2005, Jessica Simpson extensively showed off her skinny body in the famous accompanying music video. The past few years she has grown into a full figure. Part of the blame falls on her two pregnancies but after the birth of her son she got it together. Now Jessica is super slim and muscular.

When the world met Mariah she was a skinny little thing with twiggy legs. Today voluptuous would be a better word. Her pregnancy was the final straw for her figure. After the birth of her twins Monroe and Moroccan she called in the help of Jenny Craig and nearly lost 20 kilos. A few have come back on but she’s happier than ever.
