Cheap things that feel very expensive

Look, we might often talk about ridiculously expensive shoes and unaffordable bags, but actually we are very easy girls and we are super quickly satisfied. A few poles, a piece of fabric, a puddle of water – that's all it takes. It feels and looks very expensive and luxurious but it isn't, and that's just fine.

Very little food on a large plate

The more expensive the restaurant, the less you eat. A very large white plate with three peas and some other complicated looking stuff on it – that must have been expensive. Even if I were to cook something (I can't cook) with Aldi ingredients, and then pretentiously arrange it on a gigantic plate, I could probably still convince you that you're dealing with real star food here. So, the less food you give us the more impressed we are. See, we are so easy.

gecrushed ijs

Because crushed ice says “sultry cocktail bar with steaming hot waiter who has used his incredibly muscular arms to crush the ice cubes to perfection” and regular ice cubes say “here's your ice so your drink stays cold” and that, that is of course very boring. We want crushed ice. Thank you.

What wooden poles with a white curtain

Yes, this is funny, because a bit of luxury resort has such a construction (that's Amayzine's for “construction”) on the beach or by the pool made of a few wooden poles and a fluttering white curtain in between. With a bit of goodwill, you could put this together yourself for a few tens, but somehow we always associate it immediately with wealth and opulence.

Plastic glasses

Do you remember the theory of May and me about how the more expensive the place is, the cheaper the glasses are? Also explainable using the well-known formula $> = Y< (get it?). Last September, May and I were on the rooftop of the members-only Soho House in New York and there, the ridiculously expensive wine is served in plastic glasses. It was something we saw much more often, the more expensive and exclusive the place, the crappier the wine glasses. So now we are oh so easy, give us a plastic cup and we feel like kings.

Rolled towels

Because even a towel made of cardboard from Xenos still looks very spa and luxurious when rolled up. Really, try it at home.

Drinking from the pool

It's something strange that as soon as you have a glass of wine (or plastic cup) drink while still lying in the pool, you immediately think you're in a four seasons spa resort. You feel so rich and royal when you drink an ice-cold glass of white wine while lying in a bright blue pool with the sun on your head. And it’s even better when that glass is brought by a huge hunk of a waiter in a crisp white suit serving by the pool.
