This is Esmée, who has been here with us before for a lookie. Esmée is a good friend of Liesbeth and since I started running with the Girls Love 2 Run, we have also become a kind of fitness buddies. She can't really cook (she says herself) and if you ask her about her favorite breakfast, it's actually a frikandel. Other than that, Esmée is an incredibly fit girl. Just read her site Work That Es. She also works at Nike as a community manager. The past weeks have been a whirlwind with the preparations for the We Run Amsterdam run, which meant she was sleeping about four hours a night. So she could really use a long weekend. Let's ask when and how that will be kicked off.
What time are you kicking off the weekend today? And what does that look like?
Around 6 PM we will give a presentation on how the We Run Amsterdam run went. There will be cocktails served, but my real weekend starts around eight o'clock. I fear that this Friday will be spent lounging on the couch with my love.
Is there any sports happening over the weekend or is it mainly about indulging?
Both. I work out every weekend because I finally have time, and if the weather is nice, I run outside for a lap. And on the weekend, I eat everything I want.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
You can wake me up for cold-pressed super healthy juices, but I still get the happiest from a frikandel with mayo and a milkshake.
Do you cook on the weekend? What is your signature dish?
Is reheating food also good? On the weekend, I refuse to cook. On Saturdays, I often impose myself on others, and on Sundays we always order something or go out to eat. By the way, I can only make a few dishes myself, examples of which are wraps with a chicken mix and guacamole. You can tell, I can't really talk ‘beautifully’ about food.
What do you do on Sunday?
Sunday is friends' day. It's the only day off we share because he works in retail and I work in an office. If we can decide for ourselves, we meet up with friends or spend the whole day watching movies and series on the couch. But often we also have family obligations.
What does your ideal Sunday look like? Anything goes!
First, I get breakfast in bed from my love, followed by an afternoon in the park, and then we join friends on a sunny terrace for dinner. In the evening, I go very dutifully for a movie, which we of course watch in bed.
Where do you find peace, time, and inspiration?
When I recently complained that I was so busy and therefore so tired, my mother suggested that maybe I should spend less time on Instagram. Of course not, that's just my relaxation. Isn't it wonderful to mindlessly scroll through all those photos? Furthermore, a workout really gives me peace, and I love the beach.
What kind of music do you listen to on the weekend?
I often listen to BBC1 on the weekend because they play new and good music, and I also listen to the Spotify playlist from 3FM that gets updated every week. My favorite band from the past year is Oscar and the Wolf; I can listen to it for hours.
What do you have in your glass with this warm weather?
Spa red with a slice of lemon. How much of a dork do I sound, right? After that, I'll have a cold beer. And bitterballen, but I better not say that as a so-called fit girl.
You're off on Monday, what time does your alarm go off on Tuesday?
How mean of you to remind me of that already. The weekend hasn't even started yet. On Tuesday, the alarm goes off at 7:42 AM, which I think is a nice number or something. First, I lie in bed for another 20 minutes fiddling with my phone. At 8:45 AM, I leave the house without breakfast because we have that at the office. By the way, I actually quite like Mondays.
