De trouwstrijd

This weekend the steam was coming out of our iPhones because it was busy, busy, busy in our WhatsApp group and on Instagram. The reason; the two weddings of the year took place, namely; that of Vogue marketing manager Lilian Bunders and that of presenter and hospitality entrepreneur Nicolette van Dam. There were quite a few pics (Amayzine's for photos) flying back and forth, during which of course some opinions came up here and there.

Hence the question; who really had the wedding of the year. Let's go.

1. The dress

Starting with a compliment for both ladies who, despite being able to pull it off, chose to wear a sleeve instead of a strapless dress. Douze points for both.

Also plus points for Nicolette and Lilian choosing a designer from our own country. Lilian zipped up the slender bodice in ‘a’ Jan Taminiau and Nicolette chose, just like her colleague Chantal Janzen, Addy van den Krommenacker for her red pre-wedding dress. The ‘real’ one was from Bloomfeld. Both brides were beautiful although my slight preference goes to Lilian's due to the international allure and the modern approach to the dress.

2. The bouquet

Lilian chose a wildflower bouquet and Nicolette chose a Biedermeier of roses. Although I really love a wildflower bouquet, I found Nicolette's just a bit prettier. So Lil, sorry, Nicolette wins this round.

3. The crowd

Nicolette's posse flew to Girona, while Lilian's company went from De Duif in Amsterdam to a dressed-up venue in Baambrugge. Where Nicolette could boast about all the national fame that was alternately flown in with pricefighters and private jets, Lilian (being a Voguette) had many people from the fashion media and important Insta-girls.

Butrr, when Fred van Leer pulls out his drag outfit for an act with Jamai Loman in his opening act, Nick (the one from Simon, or was it Simon the one from Nick? Anyway, one of the two) and Marco Borsato and John Ewbank, you win.

So Nicolette, this one is for you.

4. The total event

Nicolette and Bas's party lasted two days with a cheerful pre-wedding (where Nicolette looked stunning in her red dress) and the wedding itself. Lilian had a modest one-day wedding, but did have an engagement party six months ago where a few dwarfs and a sheep were hired on the last day. This one goes heavily to Nicolette, because you get penalty points if dwarfs and sheep have to adorn your party, sorry.

5. The media code

That exists nowadays. Lilian had a real hashtag (#lilianandnick) and 94 photos were tagged with it, which was the source of our info about this wedding. Nicolette had no hashtag, and I thought everyone could post freely given everything that came by on social media. But that turned out not to be the case. And I found that a shame. When you go all out like that, we want to peek a little. And a social media ban is almost outdated, right? So Lilian gets bonus points. For openness and hashtag.

6. Personal touch

Lilian wrote handwritten notes for her guests and Nicolette placed a rose on everyone's bed on the wedding day. Well done, ladies.

We wish you a long and happy love.
