Juicer vs slow juicer

What is the difference?

“Jet, should I buy a slow juicer now?” I usually respond: “Well, I’m a sucker for supersonic kitchen appliances, but those things are really really expensive and you can also make a juice just fine in a blender or a regular juicer. If you don’t like washing up, I wouldn’t do this anyway, because all the parts of the thing need to be washed by hand. But well, you do get much more concentrated juice from a slow juicer, because this juicer processes vegetables and fruits by first crushing, grinding, and then pressing. With a juicer, it goes through a kind of very fast rotating grater all at once, leaving (a lot of) pulp and juice behind. Complicated? I’ll lay out the differences for you.

¿How much does it cost?

A slow juicer is expensive. Think around 250 euros, that’s where it starts. You can buy a good juicer for 80 euros. So that makes a difference.

A glass of juice

What I told you earlier is that juice from a slow juicer is much more concentrated. You should find that important. What I also really find an advantage of the slow juicer is that you can get very good juice from ginger, peppers, or herbs, even from very small raspberries. That is harder with a juicer, where actually nothing is left. Most of the time, I throw those things with juice into a blender.

The advantage of the juicer is that you don’t have to cut vegetables and fruit into smaller pieces, because the hole is quite large.

Doing the dishes

Also a (hellish) task for both. Not all parts can go in the dishwasher, but must be cleaned by hand with a special small brush. And oh dear if you decide to let it wait for a day. Flies all over and it just sticks more.

Residue

You get that with both, but it’s nice that you can make something new from the pulp of a slow juicer. A soup or a veggie burger for example. With a juicer, it’s all a bit coarser and whole stems of fruit can easily be left behind.

Music

This is very clear. With a slow juicer, it’s a very soft hum while the juicer makes quite a bit of noise.

The eye wants something too

There is quite a difference in appearance of course, but it’s not necessarily big. They are both quite large things and the more expensive the appliance, the nicer the design of course.
