Pauline is a food blogger who shares recipes that even I could make. In theory, that is. And that's what I love about her; she's no nonsense and just shares delicious things that really don't have to be super duper mega complicated. I like that. And so do 50,000 other people who all follow her on Instagram.
What is the weirdest thing in your fridge?
“Teeth whitening gel from Opalescence. Yes, you have to keep it in the fridge. It sits nicely between the mayonnaise and the ketchup. I still have to finish the whitening treatment, but I'm a bit scared because it hurt a little. Apparently, I have sensitive teeth. Other than that, you won't find many weird things in my fridge. A lot of cheese, though. I love cheese and always have at least four types at home. Right now, feta, aged cheese, goat cheese, and halloumi. Without cheese, my life is not complete.”
What does no one expect from you?
“Everyone thinks I spend all day in the kitchen. From breakfast to lunch to dinner. In reality, I only cook dinner four times a week. Every time I cook, I make something new for the blog. The rest of the week, I eat out, order food (yes, you might not have expected that), or eat at friends’ places. On weekends, I often do casual meals. I buy all sorts of delicious things at the market and eat them in the evening. No pots involved.”
What gross food is actually tasty?
“There goes my image. I love plastic cheese. You know, that processed cheese that comes individually wrapped. That doesn't really have much to do with cheese anymore. The real English cheddar is definitely much tastier. Secretly, I just don't want to know what's in it. But I get really happy from oven-baked tortilla chips with salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and plastic cheese. Or on a delicious burger. Yum! Don't tell anyone, okay?”
Which movie in your collection can't stand the light of day?
“I'm not really a movie watcher. I don't have the patience for it. I prefer series like OITNB, Breaking Bad, and Homeland. In the Netherlands, there are also great series like Hollands Hoop, Bloedverwanten, and Penoza. As for movies, I also have a love for Dutch films. They're not all equally good, but there are some gems among them. Sorry, no guilty pleasures when it comes to movies... If you had asked about my TV shows instead...”
Do you have an obsession?
“I have a very strange tic. Since I was little, I read magazines and newspapers from back to front. No idea why, but I still do it. Also, my neck automatically turns when anything edible passes by. I can't help that either. It just happens. In a restaurant, I casually look at what my neighbor has on her plate. Only to conclude that it looks delicious too. And then I regret what I ordered myself.”
What is your most pointless irritation?
“I can completely lose it over bad Wi-Fi. I don't accept it. Especially abroad, I keep refreshing and searching until I find a good network. Or I pay a fortune for 4G. I don't care, as long as I'm connected. I can somewhat live with it abroad. At home, absolutely not. I don't like complaining on Twitter, but I once let myself be tempted to tweet about KPN. I was that desperate. Really, my mood drops by the minute. But as if it matters. It doesn't change the situation to get worked up like that.”
Do you have a catchphrase?
“Super! Super fun, super nice, super tasty. Very annoying. I always use super to emphasize how fun or tasty I find something. I'm not really into awesome, so I quickly end up with super.”
