Lingerie queen Marlies Dekkers has a number of strange habits. From tailgating to endlessly eating anchovies and listening to bad Christmas music. Oh, and secretly she only wore underwear after giving birth that she actually feels ashamed of now. Are you reading along?
What is your most used excuse?
“I'm not really one for excuses, I'm more of a straightforward type. But believe me; always telling the truth doesn't always make your surroundings happy, haha.”
What bad music do you secretly enjoy?
“About Christmas music. I often start listening in November, even though I actually have to wait for myself. My daughter rolls her eyes like: ‘Oh no, my god, here we go again…’”
Do you have an obsession?
“I. Must. Always. Eat. Healthy. I might be a bit more flexible with that. I always take it so seriously! My daughter always gets fully involved with the Christmas dinner because she's afraid I'll use too healthy products. She keeps circling around me like a kind of police officer while I'm cooking.”
Which movie, TV show, or series makes you cry every time?
“One from the old box: ‘Gone with the Wind’. My daughter is named Silver, but I really hesitated for a long time to name her Tara, just like the fictional plantation Tara in the movie.”
Your ultimate guilty pleasure?
“I have a weird addiction to anchovies. If I crave salt, suddenly a whole can goes down.”
Of course, you are a lingerie expert. But which comfy ‘shame set’ do you only wear when no one else gets to see it?
“After giving birth, I wore those really big panties and nursing bras for a year. And to make matters worse, I got a bit addicted to them too. The only thing that worked was throwing everything away; otherwise, I just kept wearing them.”
What is your strangest trait?
“I take everything in life way too seriously. I don't find it strange myself, but others think it's very weird about me. Besides, I always have to have the very best of everything: the absolute best oatmeal, the best apples, the best vacation spot, you name it.”
What is your biggest pointless irritation?
“I am extremely impatient. And that manifests in tailgating and that kind of misery. Also, if someone doesn't make their point quickly enough, I can get really annoyed. That's not really a nice character trait of mine.”
Which sentence do you actually use just a bit too often?
“I’m busy. I had already resolved last year that I wanted to say that less. Being busy is actually just a perception, and by always saying that, you miss out on beautiful things in life. Everyone should scratch that sentence from their vocabulary. But, I have said it a lot less this year!”
