9 reasons
why you want to be the youngest
I haven't been the youngest for a long time, but I will always remain the youngest child. And I have always found that to be a particularly pleasant place. As a child, I already had a lot of toys, as a teenager I had my big brother who always protected me (and a car with a driver for that matter) and everything I did was soon considered ‘cute’ or ‘smart’.
The American news site The Huffington Post dedicated an article to the characteristics by which you can recognize a youngest child, and I want to add why you would like to be a youngest child.
You dare to take more risks
That safe path has already been paved, so you are willing to take a side path. Moreover, you grew up with people around you who always protected you, so you quickly feel safe. What can ultimately happen to you?
You can take a hit
When people make a joke at your expense you can laugh along calmly. You are used to it by now, and besides, you know it’s not meant to be malicious. You are secure enough in your saddle to handle it. In fact, you laugh along easily.
You are verbally sharp and have a strong intuition
You quickly realized that you wouldn't succeed in the sandbox through strength, so you had to conjure up other things. That's why you are inventive with words and can quickly counter something unpleasant. Also, if it really needs to be, you can formulate extremely sharply. So, back in the corner you go.
You easily fall asleep in front of the TV or with the lights on
With me, you can also add: on the back of a scooter or in a restaurant.
Fortunately, there seems to be an explanation for that. I am the youngest child and have been dragged around my whole young life from ship cabin to airplane seat and restaurants. I can't help it, that falling asleep has become a survival technique.
You have many privileges
Coming home late, buying condoms, taking driving lessons, sleeping over at a friend's place, all those tricky issues have already been fought over by your brother or sister. Speaking of a prepared bed…
The more, the better
You are used to there always being more than just your parents and you, so that is the norm for you. The more, the better, then you come into your own.
You can entertain yourself
Your mother didn't have time to only focus on you, so you learned to entertain yourself in diapers. And you are still happy with that.
You can spin stories
I'm not making this up, but that's what my friends from The Huffington Post say. Actually, you can argue any side of a story. Maybe because you observed a lot in your early years or because you wanted to measure yourself verbally against your family members early on. Whatever the case, you can do it.
You knew very early that Sinterklaas doesn't exist
And I was quite happy about that. Not the fear, but the gifts. Prrrima.
