Morning ritual

“I always start the morning with a lotion, I’m crazy about it. Cotton pad, lotion on (right now Clinique no. 2 is my favorite) and then over my face, it gives me a clean feeling. Then I apply a gel eye cream (La Mer illuminating eye gel) for refreshment. Finally, I’m a sucker fan of self-tanners for the face, because my face is pale compared to the rest of my body. Applying it gives me a bit of that healthy glow. Chanel’s Soleil Identité in bronze is one of the better ones I’ve tried, because it stays natural, reduces red spots, and gives a nice glow – I apply it every two/three days. On other days I use a BB cream with an SPF that preferably mattifies my skin (Vichy is coming out with a new one, keep an eye on it, because it’s great).‘

5 minutes make-up

“In five minutes I define my eyebrows with a powder (then I immediately get a more awake look), I apply a cream or stain blush, because it gives me those healthy just-off-the-beach blushes, and I put Dior’s Lipglow on my lips – a balm that enhances the natural color of your lips. Oh, and mascara of course, yay.”

Eyebrows or lashes

“Eyebrows, eyebrows, eyebrows! I could easily go out the door without makeup, as long as I have eyebrows. I get them waxed at Mrs. Highbrow in Amsterdam, it really opens up my look. I also have them dyed with a henna tint, so they look fuller and darker, and match a bit better with my hair, which is naturally full and dark. For some reason, my eyebrows have lagged behind there. A henna tint lasts longer than regular eyebrow dye, so I can go a while without worrying. Just try it, you’ll never want to go back.”

Spa Moment

“I love full body massages and because of my work, I’m lucky to often receive them in top salons. One of my favorite massages was at the Lancôme Institute on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. I fell asleep and that’s a brilliant sign. Go there and enjoy.”

Best purchase

“Masks are underrated, I think. I sometimes apply Sensai’s cellular performance mask in the morning for ten minutes. It tingles a bit, but afterwards: wonderfully awake, hydrated, and with a healthy glow. And that’s not just beauty talk, it’s really true. I was also amazed.’

Most asked question

“The question ‘Which mascara is really the best’ is by far the most asked. Unfortunately, it’s very personal, because everyone has different lashes. I always say they should try a lot until they find a winner. Well, I wish I had a better answer.”

Trends

“Everything is about shine, so dry oils for the face, foundations with a dewy effect and cream blushes will be seen a lot this coming season. As long as it pretends you have an ultra shiny and hydrated skin.”

Favorite perfume

“I have Kiehl’s Vetiver & Black Tea at the office, for when I have appointments. Every time I spray it, the whole office gathers around me or they’re in my hair. It smells like freshly washed bed linen meets a sultry scented candle and guarantees compliments.”

Undiscovered beauty product

I initially didn’t believe in boar bristle hairbrushes– ridiculously expensive and besides: mine also got the tangles out? Until I received one and my hair has since really been shinier and less static. It really works. For my hair, that is.

Never leave home without

Lip balm with a tint (Vaseline rosy lips or Dior lipglow), a kind of two-in-one product. Super handy.”
